Laura is a 200 RYT with the Yoga Alliance. Her background is from dance, the art form to which she dedicated 28 years of her life. In May of this year Laura retired from a 20 year professional dancing career and proudly transitioned, with her partner in life, Billy, into the ownership of The Yoga Fusion Studio (Formerly Try Yoga/Hot Yoga of MD).
Her history with the studio goes back to 2003 when she took her first yoga class with Simone Meyer at their DC location, and this forever changed her life. She fell in love with the combination of softness and strength Simone brought to her classes, and also realized she had found something so transformative, strengthening and energizing, she kept going back almost every day. The fusion of body, mind and spirit through yoga helped tremendously enhanced her professional ballet career and her life.
After having experienced many wonderful teachers at Hot Yoga, Laura decided to take their teacher’s training program, and became a yoga teacher in the summer of 2007. She has also trained with Neva Ingalls and continues to look for ways to enhance her yoga education.
An essential part of her yoga classes is the practice of pranayama (breath control), the continual link of breath and movement, and the use of the bandhas (energy locks), as well as the emphasis on a mindful personal practice that is never judgmental of oneself or others. Her classes are a fluid flow of sequences that are infused with energy and creativity, and are very much influenced by the teachers she admires.
Laura is still very much in touch with dance, and teaches as an adjunct professor for the dance program at George Mason University. It is her believe that one can experience many things and recreate oneself many times and this is what moves her and inspires her. A continual transformation and welcoming of the new and unknown that she wishes to transmit to her students.
