Amanda is a yoga instructor, activist, and director and founder of Empower Shakti International. Given the name, Akasha Yogini, by one of her teachers, she actively and patiently looks for the interconnections between all of life within this vast universe. Stepping forward into the teachings of her personal practice, and studying under many amazing teachers such as Robin Saltonstall PhD Integrative Health Medicine Specialist, Aditi Devi PhD Pujarini and Kali Kula lineage holder, Rod Stryker and many more, she is pulled forward, constantly in search of more knowledge and deeper integration within the vast world of holistic health and healing practices. Inspired by the sweeping and expansive vibration of Universe, she seeks to pulse to the beat of the stars. In the same way that a star is pressed in upon by gravity, and its raw energy pushed back out - this very pulsation, present in all of life, is what Amanda looks to reconnect with.
Having served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mongolia she was able to continue her dedication to women's development and freedom of rights. She worked both within the educational system as well as a local domestic violence shelter and children's orphanage. Amanda continues to seek out opportunities to support the growth and empowerment of women both at home and internationally through fundraising, awareness, and holistic approaches to health and healing.
Recognizing the intense power of choice, she invests her time and energy in supporting those seeking to improve the conditions of their lives. Diving into the darker spaces of the self, what we might consider to be ugly, is what often becomes our greatest strength; the raw and vulnerable which requires our compassion and love so that we may grow stronger within the broken spaces, and rise from the depths of richness into the light. For, it is not that the light seeks to burn away the darkness, but rather it invites it in.
The self-discovery that occurs within a holistic practice like yoga is challenging and enlightening. Reaching new depths and new heights, she believes practices like yoga and meditation allows us to grow towards our highest potential; to embrace love and life; to respect and honor our bodies, our minds and our spirits; and to embrace the constant ebb & flow of change with grace and joy.
She feels it is through simplicity, woven within a tapestry of complexity, that we may return to our truest self, and that the most significant relationship we will have in this lifetime is the relationship with the self. She invites students to challenge themselves mentally and emotionally. Lightness of heart paralleled by the intensity our most challenging moments, grants us the opportunity to shine, and in so doing inspire others to elevate the state of their own lives.
