Ben Balester is thirty eight years old. He currently is a local business owner working in retail and coffee on Fisherman’s wharf in Monterey, CA.
Ben spent eighteen years in England where he went to school and worked. In college (part of Southampton University, England) he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Fine Art. Following this he completed a two year Diploma course at ‘Heatherly School of Portraiture’ in London, England.
After moving back to California in 2000 Ben signed up for his first Marathon (Big Sur International) and two years later became the Volunteer Director of ‘The Relay’ for The Big Sur Marathon. Since then he has run twenty five marathons and fifteen official ultra Marathons including, more recently, a one hundred mile race (Western States 100). His personal best at the marathon distance is two hours fifty six minutes.
His interests include organizing and directing charity events for local shelters (including ‘Dorothy’s Place in Salinas).
Other interests are swimming, yoga, art, music, being in nature and with his pets, spiritual reading and traveling.
