Jessica has always had a passion for physical fitness. She grew up in a small town in northern Michigan and was a competitive swimmer in high school and an avid runner. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s degree in Health Promotion and Health Education. After her daughter was born in 2008, Jessica taught aerobics classes, coached Girls on the Run, and started CrossFitting out of her garage. It was at this point that Jess found her true passion in the functional fitness world of CrossFit. Jess and her husband, Steve, trained many clients out of their garage until April of 2010 when they were able to open their dream box in Concord, CrossFit Vitality. Here Jess works with individuals of all ages and fitness levels, coaching them on everything from nutrition to running to snatching. She holds specialty certifications in CF Endurance, CF Kids, CF Olympic Lifting, CF Gymnastics, and CF Mobility and Recovery. Jess has worked hard to create a supportive and motivating environment at CF Vitality, where she gets to help people accomplish their health and fitness goals every day.

What is your Favorite Quote?
“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” –Zig Ziglar
This quote motivates me and helps me to motivate my new personal training clients and beginner CrossFitters.
What is a cause/charitable organization that is close to your heart?
I really love the Girls on the Run program. I coached several seasons of the program a few years ago and I really enjoyed working with young girls and helping them to develop good exercise habits and positive self esteems. Upper elementary and middle school girls are so impressionable, and they need positive role models that emulate confidence and fitness. I think this program does a great job of helping young girls feel good about themselves and their bodies.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job as a CrossFit coach and Affiliate Owner is helping our athletes accomplish their fitness, health, and performance goals. There is nothing better than the look on a client’s face when they have gotten their first pull up, run their first mile, or PR’d their Olympic lifts. For many, these tasks seemed like impossibilities and their accomplishment increases self esteem and changes perspective both inside and outside the gym. It is also extremely rewarding to have our clients come in and reveal that they are no longer on cholesterol medication, or diabetes medication, or that they have reached their goal weight. I feel so fortunate to be able to help our members to achieve their goals and to live healthier and happier lives.
Who/What inspires you on a daily basis?
My husband, Steve, inspires me on a daily basis. Prior to opening CrossFit Vitality, Steve was a Captain in the Marine Corps. I watched him as he lead young Marines on two deployments, demonstrating discipline, mental and physical strength, and courage. He inspires me with these same leadership and organizational skills as he runs our business. Steve has dedicated himself 100% to living a healthy lifestyle and to being the best CrossFit Competitor and coach that he can be. He is the most disciplined person I know when it comes to eating, sleeping and training. He is constantly pushing the boundaries of what a “big man” in CrossFit should be able to do, yet he is very humble and unassuming. He is setting a great example for our daughter and all our members at Vitality.
