Amber has been influenced by her hometown Flint, MI, a working class town that struggled when industry moved out. A string of violent events including witness to a fatal shooting has guided Amber into a life of observation of people and surroundings as well as cultivating a sense of connection to people from all walks of life and a sense of social responsibility. This responsibility guided her to joining Americorps NCCC for a year of in-depth community service. With practice yoga has been the biggest healer of PTSD and anxiety in her life as a result of seeing a lot at a young age. Jenny began doing yoga at age 12 after reading an article about it in Seventeen magazine. As a 7th-grader, Jenny was asthmatic, with scoliosis and a fear of sports and gym class. Practicing yoga was the first time she felt skilled at any sort of physical endeavor. Maintaining a diligent home practice throughout her teenage years and into adulthood truly shaped the direction of her life, and she decided to pursue her teaching certificate to help share the transformative power of yoga with others. She completed her 200-hour training and followed that with a 50-hour specialized training in Therapeutic Yoga for Cancer at Duke Integrative Medicine.
