Mara Ingerham moved to Chicago from the forests of Oregon six years ago. City living was overwhelming and with no escape to nature, she began doing yoga. Mara fell in love with the feeling of strength, confidence, peacefulness and community that came from practicing yoga. Yoga has been a continual source of energy, calm and personal transformation on every level. Mara Ingerham creatively used financial aid money in college to travel to India on three different occasions. Mara holds a BA in International Community Development and her time in India, Nepal and Tibet literally changed her life. In 2008, Mara completed her 200-hr teacher training in vinyasa power yoga. She teaches Bikram, power vinyasa, restorative, yin yoga, and meditation instruction. Mara is deeply committed to bringing yoga into places where there is need and limited resources. This vision has resulted in the creation of a volunteer yoga program at Madden Mental Health Hospital in Maywood, Illinois. Mara feels that by reconnecting with ourselves we are, therefore, able to more deeply connect with others. Mara believes that when we change ourselves and our minds we can bring change into the world. She is also adamant that we all LIGHTEN UP and have FUN. Mara brings a big sense of humor to class and encourages students (and herself!) to laugh at our predisposition towards seriousness. You will often hear occasional emphatic swearing amongst funk and reggae music in her classes.
