Billie, I agree with you 100% about the need to travel to help feed your soul. Mostly out of necessity, when you travel your sense are heightened and you’re more engaged in the simple, daily activities (e.g. coffee at a local cafe, a walk around the town square, etc.). This awareness not only helps keep you safe, but it also makes you feel so alive.

This past March I went to Honduras by myself for a week, and just booked a ticket to fly to Argentina solo in November of this year! There’s a sort of freedom in traveling alone; forget about being scared or lonely — you get to do whatever you want whenever you want! Traveling alone helps develop confidence and makes me so appreciative for what I have back home.

I love this blog! Travel has always been a big part of my life and over the last few years I have also made it a priority to get away from home at least twice a year! I have also made the goal to not double book a vacation spot anymore! I’ve been there once, let’s try somewhere new now!

I definitely agree that not enough people are making travel a priority in their lifestyle. I believe that travel is so important in the development of a person and gives us a better understanding of the world around us.

What amazing insight! I also have it in my goals to travel & it does get increasingly harder over the years to stay on track, however I recently realized it is just finding that place & saying I am going there at this time and the rest will take care of itself. Even if you don’t have the funds right then but you still manifest the trip you may find a willing benefactor or come into that settlement check that has been in the works. One thing that travel definitely does for me is open my eyes to the beautiful world we live in and makes me appreciate coming home. That’s why I so love that you ended with the Mark Twain quote! Well Done, Top Drawer!

Hi Carrie, Until I met my husband, I never minded traveling alone. It is a completely different adventure than traveling with someone else. I always found that locals are more willing to befriend you and invite you to really cool cultural/family events when you’re by yourself than when you have a partner tagging along. Do your research to make sure you’ll be safe, and just go. You won’t regret it!

Billie, I love your perspective and goals… I have a question for you… who do you travel with? As a single 32, I don’t have many (read:any) friends who are either not married, or without kids. I have the time and am dying to travel… have you set out on your own? if so, what’s it like?
