hoodie evolution

Ugh. I just finished "one of those days." You know those days where nothing goes right and you're left wondering if that fortune teller in Hawaii really put a curse on you? It is on these truly wretched days when I need a super-hero-strength gob of goodness. Most of the time that would mean pizza, wine and a bad rom-com, but today I need to wrap myself in some goodness and it starts with my Scuba Hoodie.

If you are not familiar with lululemon's iconic hoodie it is a staple item for anyone who appreciates soft, warm, thick, preshrunk cotton. The preshrunk part gets me the most when wearing this hoodie because it never changes. Like a reliable friend, it stays true to you and maintains its "hug-like" shape. It also has a no-buckle zipper seam since all zippers are sewn in after preshrinking. Its high neck and large hood will keep you warm and happy.

Hoodie evolution takes time, great guest feedback, and entrepreneurial designers!

2005

The first Scuba Hoodie shape is released as a premium item to wear to and from yoga class. It becomes an instant classic with its short body length, luxurious thick fabric and snug fit.

2006

The Remix Lulu Hoodie is born. With a slightly longer body length, lighter fabric and a shower of artistically colored prints the Remix lulu hoodie has garnered somewhat of a "collectors" item status.

2010

A third iteration of lululemon hoodies is released with the familiar name, "Scuba," and with some additional features. Thumbholes are added, the body length is slightly longer, stretchy side panels are inserted to create a fitted look and unique logos were used.

I am 5'8 with a medium chest and curvy hips and have been in a committed relationship with the Scuba Hoodie for some time. The Scuba Hoodie represents my oath of goodness to myself because it takes me to and from my yoga practice, surrounds me in warmth and has my back -- even on the most disastrous of days.

When will this lovely purple scuba be released or will we be seeing it at all?

I love all of these colours, but especially the blue and the purple ones! Bring these back please!

Comment by Kathi — August 19, 2010 @ 11:37 am

I have the exact same blue dip dye one from 2005, and its still one of my favourites, its such pretty colours!

How much are the sweaters I don’t like the blue one the black and white one is okay but would look better in two different colors and the purple one is really nice

I would kill for lulu to make the new scooba hoodie fit in a neutral color with a huge tree with leaves, extending its branches on the back – and words like “darma” or “open your heart like a tree opens its branches” – or something simple, like “grow”.

are we going to see anymore of the faded out dye remix hoodies- like the blue one in your photo- would love to pick one up!

I love the remix hoodie. I was super disappointed when I found out that the remix is being discontinued in store. I wore a size 12 before and had 6 of the remix hoodies. I lost weight and now am wearing a size 4 and was going to slowly replace my remix hoodies, but found out that they are not being made anymore. I have a very short torso so the remix was great. At 5’4″ the shorter remix fit me perfectly. Please please don’t discontinue it!

I happen to prefer the purple one.

I have 3 remixes and a new scuba, but my all time favorite is the remix lux… I have 2 of these and I want more! Bring it back!

Comment by Sarah — August 19, 2010 @ 8:03 pm

Please make your hoodies LONGER! I have wanted one forever, but they are belly button length on me :( Boooo!!

The Wear With All Jacket is my favorite Lulu hoodie of all time!

Comment by Angela — August 19, 2010 @ 8:54 pm

i have at least one of each of these different styles and my favorite is the new scuba hoodie. i have a long torso so i am loving the longer length! thumbholes are always a good thing in my book and i prefer the fit of the new scuba to the remix as i found the remix short and boxy (but still cozy).

I WISH THEY WOULD RE-RELEASE THE GREEN TIE DYE SCUBA HOODIE!!!! I WANT…I WANT…I WANT…AND I CAN’T FIND.

Comment by Michelle — August 19, 2010 @ 11:35 pm

If you have not yet, you really need to try on the new Scuba Hoodie fit. It is amazing! Whether you are shorter or taller – give it a try and see for yourself! I LOVE mine so much!

Comment by Andrea — August 19, 2010 @ 11:46 pm

Please, please, PLEASE I beg of you…. Put out an edition of your hoodie that has a bit of extra length on the bottom. I have two lulu hoodies right now, but neither one of them look good on me because they don’t sit low enough on my waist. It doesn’t come anywhere close to the fit that the models have (in length). Please Please Pretty Please??

Comment by Chelsea Pridham — August 20, 2010 @ 5:51 am

Am I the only one who finds the Scuba too thick? It’s really movement restrictive. I bought two Remix hoodies and they’re still warm and comfy, but the fabric is a bit less thick and tight so I can move around.

Comment by Chantel I. — August 20, 2010 @ 10:16 am

Please, please, please bring back the hoodies or any sort of top in the lux cotton!! Everyone I know that owns anything that came in this extremely soft cotton absolutely adores it!

Comment by Stefanie — August 20, 2010 @ 10:34 am

A couple of inches LONGER please!

Comment by Lisa — August 20, 2010 @ 10:49 am

Thanks for all your comments and questions! We’re never sure what colours we’ll see for each season until they hit stores, and we don’t have an exact timeline for when our stores receive new products. I have recorded all of your feedback about older styles, fit, colours, and prints so that our designers can read your input.

Comment by Morgan — August 20, 2010 @ 11:28 am

I’m loving the new school Scuba, but please bring it back in the old school Scuba fabric. The new fleece just isn’t as warm or windproof as the old bonded fleece. Would love to see it done in limited edition prints as well…the “Art Series” ones are pathetic-poorly executed graphics and overdone embroidery (the “love” theme has been going on for years and the current one is the worst incarnation of it).

Comment by Laura — August 20, 2010 @ 12:06 pm

So bummed you are phasing out the remix hoodie. I have the new scuba as well. But at 5’1 and 100 lbs. it is too long. I loved the tiny fit and short waist of the original hoodie.

Comment by Heather Johnson — August 20, 2010 @ 2:40 pm

I love them all, I just wish the stores would carry more of each funky colors in all sizes. I find that the ones I want are already gone by the time I find them. What an awful feeling that is.

Comment by Carol Strid — August 20, 2010 @ 8:33 pm

Hey Carol,
Don’t forget the Guest Education Centre is a great resource if you are having trouble finding an item you want. We have a access to inventory that is seperate from online as well, so if you can’t find the item in your local store or online, give us a call. Our number is 1.877.263.9300 option #2

I see that in store the color “lolopurple” is starting to be used is several items of clothing. With purple being the hottest color for this year, hopefully Lululemon will get on board with the color demand of the market and make a remix hoodie in this color. Believe me, they will be HOT item and sell out fast!

Comment by Shelley — August 22, 2010 @ 2:46 pm

Re: the previous poster’s comment, I just bought the Scuba hoodie in Lolo purple last night and love it!

Comment by Lynn — August 27, 2010 @ 10:22 am

I bought a Lulu hoodie made of “modal” a few years ago. It is longer than my old scuba and does not have thumbholes. It is my FAVOURITE piece of clothing. I don’t know what style it is (scuba, remix, etc) but would love it if somebody could help me figure it out.

Comment by Danielle — November 18, 2010 @ 10:33 pm

I love the longer Scubas! They are soo nice and form fitting and also sooo warm! I think i have the remix or the shorter Scuba with pink and black stripes from years back, and the wrists were starting to wear through from wearing it too much! I <3 them so much and would love to see more colours and patterns!

Comment by mbiest — December 9, 2010 @ 7:47 pm

@Danielle, the modal lulu hoodie is called the Remix Hoodie Lux

Comment by Janet — December 21, 2010 @ 10:48 pm

BEST explanation of Scuba vs. Remix Hoodies I’ve ever seen. Thank you!!
