... clap your hands!

Here at lululemon athletica’s Store Support Centre, we have a truly wonderful yoga and fitness program. Five days a week, instructors come into our light-filled studio to conduct classes consisting of various styles and degrees of difficulty throughout the day – and all you have to do is grab a (provided) mat and show up. With all these resources at my fingertips, you’d think I’d be the downest dog in town, right?

Wrong. Exceedingly, surprisingly, embarrassingly incorrect.

It’s time for a shameful admission: In my four months of working here thus far, I have NOT been to a yoga class at the Store Support Centre (editor’s note: those meowing noises are the symphony of a litter of inflexible kittens pawing their way out of the bag).


Alexis is going to her first yoga class today!

It didn’t start this way. I had the best of intentions, sure. But like many of you, I was so caught up in the workings of my new job that I completely forgot what attracted me to lululemon in the first place.

The reason I’m sharing this with you is to prove a point – this can happen to anyone with the best of intentions, even someone working in a building BASED around yoga. It doesn’t matter how near or far you are from your yoga facility, or gym class; how cold it is outside, how much work you have, or how your running crops are in the wash. If you want to make excuses, you can.

Clichéd, but true: you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink. Well friends, get ready, because this old chestnut (neigh?) is getting ready to take a trot (scratch that: CANTER!) through the Hatha fields on Monday with Ingrid, one of our lovely instructors. As for her correcting my woeful use of animal metaphor, it’s too soon to tell.

The hardest thing is to step back, remove yourself from the situation and ask, “what happened?” I think you completely got it – you were caught up with your new job (congrats by the way!!!). Now that you’re settled in, take advantage of all that lululemon has to offer!

I truly enjoyed all the random references in this post and tip my hat to you.

Today I am going to the gym. It’s rainy. And cold. And gross. BUT I was just traveling for 3 days and missed out on my regularly scheduled (yes SCHEDULED) workouts.

As such I’m grabbing the proverbial bull by the horns (um…my own?) and forcing myself to the gym after I get some groceries because god knows this girl needs to eat before any weights are getting lifted anytime soon. ;)

Let us know how your trip through the Hatha fields go! I myself enjoy the Ashtanga meadows…little Moshka beaches. <—overkill on the analogies. I'll stop now.

Mmmm maybe just one more…no? Ok I'm done. :)

Woohoo! I’ve been saying that about our Hali-lulu run club, too, and last week, I finally went! I’ll be there again this Wednesday with bells on. The first one is the hardest!

Thanks guys! Class was great…I’m a little sore today. Miss Bev, I DO need to do a circuit class, but first, I’m doing a Spin Challenge at Kits Workout…all the cardio of a serious run with less impact! Yeahhhhhh.

Nothing is holding me back…anymore!!! Last year I was laid off from my job and spent the summer SAYING I would get fit, go to the gym, etc. Well, guess what? A job came along in November and I was still sitting on my butt thinking about all the good things I could have been doing with the time I had off…
Well, I just got laid off AGAIN…(little advice…if the interviewer says the job is for a new position…just get up and RUN!!!) I have been to the gym faithfully for 60-90 min each session. It’s easier to get to your goal when you have time to focus on you…no excuses for me anymore!
