living #thesweatlife

It's well known around the lululemon Store Support Centre: our Athletic Stylist Elim has #thesweatlife down to an art. This girl Down Dogs and burpees with the best of them yet always looks chic during class and after, too. Recently she went on a photo shoot to Hawaii and we asked her to share with us some of her secrets for how to pack for a trip in the tropics. Take it away, Elim!

Be it work or play, I check my weather app almost obsessively before leaving on a trip. The Weather Network is forecasting highs of 27’C for the day we arrive in Honolulu - that’s 20 degrees warmer than Vancouver! Airplane cabin temperatures are notoriously on the cooler side so I’ve learned to layer, layer, layer. Each piece has to have a purpose and be easy to remove and stow.

what I’m wearing

- Wunder Under Crop: This style is a no-brainer. They are beyond comfy and look good being comfy, too.

- Cool Racerback Tank: My go to first layer. The only thing between me and my CRB is a Free To Be Bra.

- Shape Jacket: The perfect in-between layer that helps keep my core warm during the flight and easy to zip off upon arrival. Bonus: luon can roll into the tiniest of spaces and won’t use up too much space in my carry on.

other in-flight must haves

- giant scarf that can double as a blanket

- hand lotion

Smith’s Rosebud Salve

- fully charged tunes (on repeat: Rihanna ft. Mikky Ekko – Stay, Frank Ocean - Thinking Of You)

what’s in my suitcase

Styles can come and go, but our fabrics have longevity. On this trip, I needed to have clothing for long days on set, potential yoga/run dates with the team all while staying comfortably cool in warm unpredictable weather. Knowing this, I narrowed it down to styles in my closet that were made of Tencel Silk, Silverescent Sheer Luon, Silverescent, Swift, Vitasea, Seamless and of course, luon. These pieces rolled/folded well with minimal wrinkling, could air dry overnight if I need to do any hotel sink laundry and when paired or accessorized properly could be multipurpose.

what's in my purse

- sunnies

My watch: for when the iPhone runs out of juice

- Powdered sunscreen: perfect for touchups in the heat

- eyelash curler

- eye drops...dry peepers post-flight be gone!

Cuticle cream: travel makes my hands so dry.

- EmergenC...no time for sickness on these trips, trust me.

- re-usable shopper for last minute items

We can't wait for you all to see more from Elim's Hawaiian adventure coming up soon! What essentials do you pack on your trips away?

Comment by Leslie — February 24, 2013 @ 1:28 pm

what’s the brand of the bag in the first picture? it’s super cute!

Comment by Samantha — February 24, 2013 @ 2:25 pm

Hi Jenny,
The bag in the photo is the an older style which was called the Bon Voyage Duffel. If you were searching for a similar nylon bag, I recommend taking a look at the Do It Up Duffel (http://bit.ly/WkLvm5).

Bernice, Leslie and Samantha, I’ve reached out to Elim directly for your questions and will comment once I hear back from her.

I don’t get on a plane without a pair of earplugs and a stick of Aveda’s Lip Saver. That stuff is like magic. I also love a bright colored pashmina: on the plane it keeps you warm, and you can throw it over your shoulders on a cool night in a warm locale. The bright color keeps you happy.

Looked up the do it up duffle and does not look as good/useful as the bon voage duffle in the pic. Maybe you should consider bringing it back

I love the bag in the picture!!! Can we still get it???

Hi Katie,
The bag in the photo is an older style called the Bon Voyage Duffel. As our bags are seasonal, it’s not a style we’re seeing at the moment. What are your must-have’s in a bag? We do have a couple styles online I recommend taking a look at: http://bit.ly/13IP5d2

Love this post!
It has been my goal (nay, mission) for some time, to cut down on what I travel with and make every piece count. Posts like this help me see how multi-functional everything I already own is.
My carry on must haves are:
1. Eos mint lip balm
2. grey herringbone vinyasa scarf
3. Travel Mug
4. sunglasses
5. Book

What is the jacket in the image?

Also, bring back the bon voyage duffel!

Huge shout out for the Vinyasa scarf for traveling! I took it to Europe last fall and it worked great as a blanket during flights, and cute with outfits too!!! Highly recommend!!

What are the brands of the jacket and shoes?

Comment by liz — February 26, 2013 @ 5:38 pm

Been trying to figure out the shoe brand all day. Please help.

Comment by liz — February 27, 2013 @ 12:00 am

Hello friends! The shoes are my favorite and are by a Toronto, Canada brand called Luigi Sardo: http://luigisardo.com/ and the style is called “The Classic”. Thanks so much for checking out this post, I really appreciate the love :)
