yum to fresh jackfruit!
It tastes so good that the Lugandan word for it "Fenne", is the word we used to get kids to smile for the camera in Uganda!
I've seen Jackfruit trees in Both East and West Africa... to me it tastes like a mixture of strawberries and bananas and pineapples... oh my gosh... I've got the hugest craving now. Can't wait to try this recipe!

Jackfruit doesn't stink but the fresh one does have a strong smell. Its yummy and sweet! You can get it everywhere in Asia esp Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia! Sounds like a delicious recipe. Will definitely try it ;)

Thanks for the tip @Jaladi! I've never dealt with fresh jackfruit but when i mentioned the recipe to my surrounding deskmates a lot of noses got scrunched! Figured it was better to add a disclaimer than lead people astray! Thanks for the clarification though... now I won't fear fresh jackfruit like i did before!

Canned Jackfruit is pre boiled (cooked). If you buy it fresh you need to buy UNRIPE jackfruit. (The ripe one tastes like pineapple/ mango/ strawberries very tropical, its a rich butter yellow color and BTW is is not stinky... you are confusing Jackfruit with Durian).
Green Jackfruit needs to be peeled and sliced which is cumbersome. The fruit has a very sticky sap...your cutting area areas, hands and knife need to be oiled and can also can discolour from processing it. Pressure cook green jackfruit.. then it gets super tender. Its lovely when you use the fresh one: juicy, tender, kinda oily and everything desirable for this recipe. Hope this help.
Excellent idea, thank you.

Fresh jackfruit is stinky? I've never heard of that. I know that durian is stinky and it looks kinda similar to jackfruit... I'll have to verify this next time I'm in Thailand (the only place I know that has fresh jackfruit).
