Hi Kav,

Nano technology is a different concept. We do not use nanosilver fibers in our process as there are some environmental concerns. The small size of the particles could easily escape into our sewage system causing imbalance, and there are even some studies that indicate nano particles could get into human body system and stay there forever.

Hi,
Why does nanosilver have different safety issues? It seems like this product is coated with a lot of silver and nanosilver if pure, would just have a lot less silver in it. Wouldn't this reduce health safety risk?

Hi Dan, Jessica, and Derrick,

After your questions about the use of silver in our silverescent luon, we went straight to our product gurus to learn more.

We use pure silver (Ag)in our silverescent fabrics which attracts and absorbs bacteria to prevent odour. You may be thinking of nano silver, which we do not use due to the issues surrounding its safety. It is a different substance from the pure silver we use.

Silver is not classified as a heavy metal, and does not leech out of our products. Leeching is caused by a reaction with other compounds. Because we use pure silver, there is no reaction.

The use of silver is regulated by the EPA and FDA, and we have all the regulations and testing in place to back-up its effectiveness and safety.

We strive to create functional and fashionable pieces with the latest fabric technologies, which, we understand, can sometimes bring up a few questions. Thank you so much for asking this question and giving us the opportunity to share more information about our products with you!

Cheers,
Laura, GEC Online Community

The reputedly charming Brittany & her video on Silverescent luon aren't there! Just the picture of a Silverescent Luon tag.

Of more concern -- silver toxic? What about that colloidal silver that massively alleviates my sister's cat's suffering from the symptoms of a chronic (noncontagious) herpes infection in her (the cat's) sinuses? Now my sister's whole family swigs colloidal silver & swears to its potent effectiveness for every ailment from the common cold to leprosy. The stuff flies off the shelf at my local health food store.

Are all these people gonna pay big time for their embrace of the deadly stuff, or is colloidal silver safe for the same reason that homeopathic medicines are, i.e. so massively diluted they can't harm you (whether they can help is another question)?

Silver has recently been proven to leech from fabrics and is a heavy metal toxin that can enter the blood stream. I would like to personally urge Chip, who I met at a talk in Victoria a couple years ago, to take a closer look. Happy to answer any questions directly.

This is truly exciting. Sometimes tops that you put a lot of sweat into re-smell after they've been washed, you sweat again and thy stink again! The anti-stink running tops that you guys put out were the only tops I can be confident wearing any time as a spin instructor, personal trainer, yogi and hiker. Just in time for holiday shopping. Thanks!

What does this mean - you don't wash it in between wears and it stays fresh? Shouldn't you always wash your work out wear - whether it is silver or not?
