Girls in Canada have been dancing, figure-skating and plié-ing in ivivva for the last two years. We know how hard it is to moonwalk over the 49^th Parallel, so to make things easier ivivva gear is now available online in the USA.

Let’s take it back to a few years ago –okay maybe more than just a few. Let’s go back to that time when your inner kid didn’t exist because, well, that’s just who you were. A kid.

If your childhood was anything like mine, the concept of “spreading yourself too thin” only applied to too little jam on your toast. Between back-to-back dance class on Mondays, soccer on Wednesdays and gymnastics twice weekly, there was hardly a moment when we were ever standing still. You were always ready to bust a move and would breakout in dance any chance you got.

In 2009, we gave a warm welcome to ivivva athletica. Now, we’re proud to announce that on August 15^th the ivivva online store opened their digital doors to Canadian guests with the launch of the newly redesigned ivivva.com. ivivva creates clothing that is designed to perform through every cartwheel, chasse, and axel in both a functional and fun way. They’ve incorporated learnings from lululemon’s  athletic wear to ensure that every athlete is ready and able to reach their full potential.

Girls all over Canada will be lacing up their dancing shoes and going online to check out the entire ivivva closet for the first time ever. Like us, the online store also offers free shipping across Canada so girls can literally dance everywhere.

Hopefully we haven’t lost sight of our ability to get our groove on at the drop of a solid beat. Over the years our definition of activity has probably changed and morphed with us but the importance of exercise has always remained the same. We understand the value of athletic wear that promises performance and that enables us to run faster and go further.  The shining faces of the young girls who look up to us deserve nothing less.

The ivivva team has heard your feedback and is scheduled to open a temporary ivivva boutique in Toronto Eaton Centre on October 8th. But before that, ivivva will be making an appearance at the lululemon Hamilton Warehouse Sale happening Sept. 30 to Oct. 3, 2010.

This day was awaited by many who had been longing for a girl's line of athletic wear as a younger sister brand of lululemon athletica. After listening to the feedback from so many, I had my own preconceived ideas of what it would be like, with cute mini Groove Pants and Remix lulu Hoodies to boot. There had been a lot of expectations and anticipation for ivivva and I truly wondered if we would meet them all. What I found quite literally blew those expectations out of the water.

Hustling down West 4th in the pouring rain, I was more concerned about getting out of the wet than where I was going. All of a sudden I got held up by people coming to a halt on the sidewalk. What on earth was going on, I thought?! There in the window display where two young amazing gymnasts poised with such grace and the biggest grins on their face. Then I looked up at the sign above: I had arrived at ivivva athletica. I stood there in the rain, grinning and gaping myself. It was more than I could have imagined and I longed to be 10 again to go gallivanting throughout the store. The beautifully thought out space had such a young vibrancy that was truly unique and inviting. You could tell that by how packed the boutique style store was, filled with young athletic girls and their families marvelling at the product, the layout and all the cool features such as the catwalk. This special dance party also came equipped with live dj, photo booth, 'live' mannequins and graffiti handmade Tee's that you got to watch being made. Although the dance party may have finished, ivivva is going to continue to rock on. If you can get to one, I highly recommend it. What an amazing creation!

Remember last month when we introduced you to the ladies behind ivivva athletica? We are more than excited to announce that if you live in Vancouver BC, as of this morning you can now check out ivivva in person!

The first ivivva location of three opened today in Vancouver at 10 am, followed closely by Calgary on December 5th and Victoria on December 11th. All three have planned grand opening dance parties and  ivivva Vancouver's is tomorrow, November 28th! RSVP for the event and get the details here.

Meet Tanya, our sister company ivivva athletica's product developer. Read below to get a sneak peek into a day in her life!

7 am - I’m busing to the office, with A New Earth in my lap. lululemon’s book club, Bibliophilia, is focusing on chapter 3 this week: The Core of Ego. Reading on my commute is a great opportunity to get some perspective before the momentum of the day takes hold.

8 am - I open my inbox to a flood of emails. Our off-shore factory partners have responded to the requests for samples and questions about garment construction that I sent the night before. We are on a tight schedule, so it’s important that my correspondence is as clear and thorough as possible.

9:30 am - It’s time to prepare sample packages to send to our vendors. Based on comments made at the yesterday’s fitting, I update the technical sketches and bill of materials for each style. I am working against a deadline, as the parcels need to be at reception before FedEx arrives!

12:30 pm - I head down to the Store Support Centre’s yoga studio for an energizing Vinyasa class. A yoga break keeps me sharp and motivated for the rest of the day!

1:30 pm - I grab my lunch and meet with ivivva athletica’s designer, Jennie Lam, to fit samples on a mannequin. Today’s agenda includes approving pre-production samples for Winter 2009 and marking new design lines on styles for Summer 2010. Yesterday we fit size runs, my favourite type of fitting! When a style is close to being finalized, we will order a prototype in every size we plan to carry. Fit models, sized 6-12, will visit the office to test each style’s fit, function and comfort level. It is amazing to meet the end users of our products (and their parents!). We get great feedback from these sessions that influences future decisions and helps to elevate the line.

2:30 pm - The remainder of the day is dedicated to colourways. Each season, it is the product developer’s responsibility to record every colourway a style is offered in, as well as the colours of every fabric and trim in each of those versions. With over 70 styles planned, it is a meticulous job, but I love how strategic I need to be to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

5:00 pm - It’s a brisk, sunny day, so I slip on my running shoes and jog the 10km home. It’s the perfect time to set goals for the day ahead and to revel in the beauty of our city!
