We didn't feel we could introduce you to some of Jon's favourite things without introducing you to Jon. We've edited down the biography of this surfer/designer/dad to these 11 answers.

We didn't feel we could introduce you to some of Jon's favourite things without introducing you to Jon. We've edited down the biography of this surfer-designer-dad to these 11 answers.

1. describe what you do at lululemon in three words
Put. Out. Fires. (Ed's note: Jon is the Creative Director at lululemon, not a fire-fighter)

2. who was your creative role model growing up?
When I was a kid it was Frank Lloyd Wright because I wanted to be an architect. His philosophy really appealed to me. (Ed's note: in a nutshell, Wright believed in 'organic' architecture; that "form and function are one.")

3. if you had a different job for a day, what would you be?
I'd be a landscaper. I love transforming things; things that I can see, that other people can see. It's really cool to know that you're working with something that's living.

4. when do you consider a piece of work to be complete?
To me, it's when I walk away from it, either in disgust or delight. And sometimes they're never done (my wife would say that is closer to the truth. None of my projects are ever done).

5. tell us about one place in the world that inspires you
Anywhere in the ocean. It's the one place where everything seems to make sense. We just got back from a family surf trip to California, my wife and I were sitting in the water (it wasn't as cold as here), the sun was out and the kids were on the beach having a blast. We just looked at each other and said, 'why don't we live here? We should do this.' Then we got in the car, got stuck on the freeway in traffic, drove through congested neighbourhoods. When we got back to Vancouver, I went over to Tofino for the weekend and surfed there with absolutely no-one in the water and realized why we're here. There were no crowds, the water was clean and cold. It was gorgeous. It was amazing.

6. how do you fit yoga into your life?
Every Tuesday night, my wife and I do yoga together at YYoga in Lynn Valley with our teacher Alex - she's awesome. It's Anusara, which we really like because it's a good workout as well as really technically astute. I find it has really helped me recover from some old injuries, so I definitely appreciate it from that perspective.

7. tell us about the first time you did yoga
I had this misconception that somebody would be walking around showing me exactly what to do right from the beginning; more of a lesson than a class, kind of a step by step. But it's more of a sink or swim thing, you just get in there and do it. You just watch and learn and I find that part of the process really interesting and really humbling too.

8. what's the best advice you've ever received?
Measure twice, cut once.

9. what advice would you share with your children?
Be authentic. Be true to you. Because it will always come back to that, it'll be the one thing that you will question later; whether you did things because they were the right thing to do for you.

10. what's your favourite inanimate object in your house?
I collect chairs so I have a couple of chairs that I like looking at: a couple of Eames, Corbusier and a really cool Bertoia wire chair that's a thing of beauty. I always have to rearrange them to make sure they're properly arranged. But the one thing that I always look at, that makes me smile, is a photo that my friend took at the L.A. Gay Rodeo a couple of years ago. It's of a gay cowboy on a horse and he's wearing pink high-heeled cowboy boots. It's a really good conversation piece.

11. if you had an extra hour in the day, what would you do with it?
I'd play. I'd play more with my kids.

Fresh to the design team last week Catherine is ready to spread her enthusiasm through the department. As a technical designer Catherine will be ensuring the construction, fit, and quality of our products. Catherine is a master of ‘the perfect fit' and will be helping lululemon to continue to produce best in the world Groove Pants and apparel! Keep reading to find out what makes her tick.

what is something unique or surprising about you?

I'm a happy person. My positive energy is contagious. If you have a chance to meet me, you will understand why.

what is one of your biggest passions?

Yummy food. Come on, who doesn't like to eat?

where is your favorite place in the world?

I love to travel, but the place I call home, Vancouver, is my favourite place in the world.

what do you want to be remembered for?

I would like to be remembered as a lovely wife, a caring daughter, a trusted friend, a reliable colleague, a good person. However, when I left my last job, many of co-workers said that they will really miss my distinctive, genuine, happy laugh.

what gets you up in the morning?

Not coffee. The idea that I'm one day closer to achieving my goal helps me to jump out of my cozy bed. Also, I can't wait to experience the unexpected day to come. As we all know "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get" - right?

coolest thing about being a technical designer?

As a technical designer I'm fortunate to see the progression of our product from the initial design on paper to the end of ready-to-buy garment. Each product to me is like a baby - I nurture and shape them- I take care of them until they are ready to fulfill their purpose in this world - how cool is that?

We are incredibly excited to have Catherine on the team contributing to the creation and production of our technical clothing for yoga, dancing, running, and most other sweaty pursuits! Check out some of the amazing possibilities available for your own future contributions at lululemon athletica.

New York City; fashion capital of the world and destination inspiration for every young aspiring entrepreneur. Some of our greatest educators of all time have made the pilgrimage down to the Big Apple to make their mark and facilitate spreading lululemon greatness. This week meet some of our team in the field and find out how they were attracted to lululemon and landed their dream jobs!

why do you have the most amazing job?

I love my job because it’s people first, and then we see the financial results again and again. Travelling around talking to people about their goals and helping them feel comfortable and confident in their job gets me up every day. I also think our product ROCKS so that helps.

how has working at lululemon made a difference in your life?

I’m more self-aware then I have ever been because of the tools offered at lululemon (Brian Tracy, Landmark, goal setting). Self awareness brings peace of mind. Peace of mind allows me to let go of my worries and create a future based on what’s possible, not what happened. Thank you lululemon!

what is your big hairy audacious goal?

My big hairy audacious goal was to move to New York City – and I just made it happen! I simply shared it with everyone around me and when my dream job finally opened up, I got it. Just one of many goals I have achieved while working with lululemon. It’s not ‘work’ – it’s a community of people standing for you and your goals, so long as you’re committed by giving back and never accepting anything less than greatness in your life. Guess it’s time to set a new hairy audacious goal. Hmmm....

monique - store manager of union square nyc

how did you come to lululemon?

I had a career as a project manager in technology and was looking for a part time job so I could have social interactions with real live people - I loved yoga and the website and lululemon at the time was opening the first store on the East Coast of the USA!

why do you have the most amazing job?

lululemon attracts people - employees, athletes, loyal fans - who are committed to creating incredible lives. Sometimes they are aware of it, sometimes they aren't, but they find themselves drawn to our stores and our educators. They read our manifesto, wear our clothing, take classes at our stores, hang out with our team. They find themselves running marathons or enrolling in yoga teacher training. Sometimes they work for us. In small steps or large leaps they take on their lives, transform their relationships, set goals, and create new futures.

Every day is different. In the stores, we have to rise to each day's unique set of challenges. My intellectual side gets to analyze numbers. My creative side gets to dream up events and windows and rewards for my team. My passionate side gets to have meaningful conversations every day. For every side I have, it finds expression. What more could I ask for?

Each day in the stores is unique!

how has working at lululemon made a difference in your life?

I've made close friends with people I have worked with, become a yoga teacher, moved to a new city - and I discovered I've grown up. And yet I feel younger at heart than ever before. Younger, and lighter. None of that would have happened without being inspired, challenged, and motivated daily by the people I work with. I have so many role models that I learn from every time I am in their presence. And I've never worked harder or had more fun at the same time.

what is your big hairy audacious goal?

I am a self-supporting artist!

cara - regional manager nyc

how did you come to lululemon?

I kept going into the Victoria, British Columbia store and was in awe of how cool the people were and I never wanted to leave, plus I was in love with my black stretchy pants that I would never take off. I began working part-time as an educator while completing my Master’s degree and then absolutely had to be a part of company as the culture totally resonated with who I am.

why do you have the most amazing job?

I get to wake up every single day and work with the most amazing people on the planet. They constantly inspire me, push my limits and truly stand for greatness. Moreover, I have had the opportunity to live and experience the coolest places in the US, Boston and now, NYC. I am still pinching myself that I live in NYC. Lastly, I love who I meet everyday in the store and in the community. It is so cool to hear about people’s goals and just get to know who comes into our store and how we can help them. Ultimately, I feel I make a difference everyday in someone’s life. What could be better than that?!

how has working at lululemon made a difference in your life?

I am a better person, a better daughter a better sister, a better friend, a better wife, and a better leader. Personal development and goal setting have demonstrated that anything is possible and that you can love every single second of your life.

Cara on a stroll in the Big Apple

what is your big hairy audacious goal?

I am the CEO of lululemon athletica.

Learning about these amazing ladies stories inspired me -- not only to plan my next vacation to NYC, but also to embrace the possibilities and open doors surrounding me. If you find yourself attracted to greatness don’t miss your dream job and explore some of the possibilities waiting for you on the lululemon careers page.

what gets me up in the morning?

What gets me up in the morning is knowing that I’m heading in to work with amazing people who are doing what they love. Everything I’m doing at lululemon contributes to getting me ready to achieve my goal of owning a leadership facility with my husband. It’s incredible to do work that contributes to my future each and every day.

why do I love working at lululemon?

I love working at lululemon because the environment is challenging and supportive. I know that I can try new things and if I fail the people around me will be there to give me feedback, support me in trying again and believe in me. I can take risks and innovate in a safe, fun environment.

I love my work as Head of Leadership Development because I get to work with people who are taking themselves on in a big way. I am honoured to learn from them and to contribute to them being greater than they thought they could be. One of my coaches told me to “teach what I want to learn most” and I am able to do that every day. I’m convinced I have the best job in the world!

how does my role in leadership development elevate lululemon?

My team and I are committed to people seeing how through choice they can be great in their lives. We create workshops and programs for people to develop in both their professional skill and their personal lives. We know that if people are achieving goals, taking care of themselves and are always developing, our business will flourish! When people are able to see that through taking personal responsibility they can create anything they want for their lives, they see that they have the power to change the world.

For all you Americans out there, say hello to our first ever US Distribution Centre Manager, Rebekah. This is a brand new DC and brand new role, so we can expect a lot of growth and exciting change to be bubbling around this new lululemon star.

Oh hi there, Rebekah!

what are your favourite things to do in your spare time?

I am just a big nerd
I love reading books and watching documentaries on all sorts of strange topics. The interpretations of historical events from ancient Egypt are fascinating.
I also enjoy playing video games. I love working together with friends to build armies or kill zombies!

who is your mentor / hero? why?

Hero: My brother Elijah. He has more passion in life than anyone else I have ever known. He has never let outside influences disrupt his dreams, beliefs or ambitions even when others did not believe in him.

Mentor: My former boss. He always saw greatness in me even when I struggled to see it myself. I owe so much of my initial growth to his time and attention. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn so much from someone who I respect and admire.

your favourite quote?

“Life has taught us that love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction.”

This quote resonates with me because I believe we can accomplish so much more together then we ever could attempting to imitate one another. Educating each other through advice and experience ensures our efforts toward greatness are not wasted.

I also heard something that I liked over the weekend:
“You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”
-Alice in Wonderland

Rebekah in her snorkling gear

something silly or unique about you?

I used to dye my hair a different color every week! My best friend and I would try to think up crazy new combinations to test out on my hair. It would definitely be hit and miss!
I also have a parrot Cockatoo named Daisy Mae. She has been with me for 7 years and if all goes well she will be will be with me for 60 more!

One of her many hair colours

what drew you to lululemon? favourite part of your job so far?

The people! Everyone I have met at lululemon has had a special energy that feels so good to be around and be a part of. I feel that I learn from everyone I meet, and there is always something exciting to be a part of and create!

My favorite part of my job has been building up a new team to add to the awesomeness of the lululemon family. I am SO excited to see us get closer to our vision with every new member.

Rebekah will definitely be looking to add new awesome people to her already awesome US team! If you live in the Washington area and consider yourself to be quite awesome, check out the opportunities available at the new US DC... www.lululemon.com/possibilities

Winds of fantastic change are blowing through Store Development with the hire of our new VP, Wynn. He comes to lululemon with over 25 years of real estate experience, from companies such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Starbucks and Priszm Brands (KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell). We know he is going to do some great things with the team and with our stores!

Welcome to the lululemon team Wynn!

what is something unique or surprising about you?

I completed the market mapping of Amsterdam for Starbucks on bicycle as part of a four month European assignment. I rode around Amsterdam for 5 days straight 10 to 12 hours per day. It was a great experience and a test of endurance.

Biking in Amsterdam

what is one of your biggest passions (outside of store development!)?

My wife, nieces and nephews and playing hockey. I married my high school grad date so we are like soul mates. She also puts up with my other passion – store development, which trust me requires a lot of understanding.

Wynn's wife, with their nieces and nephews

favourite place in the world?

Paris, France. There was so much history and the Louvre museum was awesome.

a goal you've achieved that you're proud of?

Completion of my first yoga class - a Bikram hot yoga class! I survived and am ready for another one. My goal is to now attend at least one hot yoga class per week.

what do you want to be remembered for?

Having fun and sharing what I love – development and being part of a great team.

If you want to be a part of the Wynn legacy in Store Development, keep an eye on the lululemon careers page!

You may have seen Jennifer running past you with the Olympic torch, but you probably didn't know that she was one of the newest, freshest faces on the lululemon IT team! Although she hasn't been here long, Jennifer is already inspiring us with her commitment to yoga for youth and her exceptional IT skills.

Jen is new to Vancouver, so let's do everything we can to make her feel at home here!

Jen kisses her new skates for Rollerderby.

what are your favourite things to do in your free time?

In my free time I love to practice yoga, rollerskate (I play rollerderby) and explore Vancouver since I'm new to town! I'm also actively working on setting up a foundation that teaches yoga to youths, and young women in particular. I believe that yoga can foster self awareness and self confidence which is important during their formative years.

what is the biggest goal you achieved in 2009?

2009 was really a foundation-setting year for me. It is too easy to get into a "rut", and after taking a hard look at my life and considering my goals, I decided to take some risks and go after my dreams. I sold my house, began a yoga teacher training program and was lucky enough to secure a spot in the Olympic Torch Relay.

Jen with the Olympic torch.

who has had the most influence in your life? why?

Family and friends have played key roles in my life, and in particular my mom and dad have been very important. They have always stressed the importance of living unselfishly and honestly, and encouraged exploring creative solutions to any issues I've faced.

8 year old Jen with her baby sister.

what super-power would you most like to have, and why?

I would love to be able to fly. Aside from the thrill of gliding through air, flight would make travel quick, and I could explore new places and visit distant friends on a whim.

what drew you to lululemon? favourite part of your job so far?

lululemon's people and culture drew me to their website, and to a posting for the IT QA team which matched my skills and interests. The people here have made me feel welcome and my manager has encouraged me to acquire the knowledge I need to do my job as I see fit, which is really empowering. I've really enjoyed learning about all of the processes and departments within the company that work together to ensure top quality products and an amazing experience for all our guests. I feel lucky coming to work everyday, and I'm proud to be a part of a company with as much integrity as lululemon!

We need more rockstars (or Rollerderby stars) like Jen on our quickly growing IT team. Spread the word. www.lululemon.com/careers

Behind the success of a great company with happy and healthy employees, you can expect to find an equally great Benefits Manager. This is the person who tends to the needs of the employees and looks out for their long-term health and happiness.

Luckily for us at lululemon, we've just welcomed Gerardo into the Benefits Manager role... he's definitely got his heart in the right place, and he has the mind to make great things happen. Say hi to Gerardo!

Gerardo, with his family.

what are you most passionate about?

I have a great family that I love with all my heart. My wife is a fitness trainer (who loves lululemon clothes) and we have two boys. They're very active and have allowed me to see the world with new eyes. My five-year-old is fascinated with the night sky. He constantly asks questions about the stars, planets and the Milky Way. My eight-year-old loves science and riding his bike anywhere he can (particularly to the local convenience store). He's taking Tae Kwon Do and is pursuing his goal of becoming a black belt.

what's your favourite way to sweat?

Cardio and some weight training three to four times a week has kept me in shape. I love sweating using the treadmill at the gym. I also do 30-minute power walks at least twice a week.

Playing in the snow.

biggest goal you want to accomplish in 2010?

Career goal: Review our current benefits offering and propose those changes that will have the most impact to employee health and wellness.

Health goal: Learn to inline skate and then go skate along Stanley Park’s seawall at least two times this year.

what would an ideal gerardo day look like?

A day spent with people you love doing something you don’t do every day, like go swimming in the lake or ocean. Go hiking or camping somewhere really peaceful. That would be the perfect day.

Gerardo and his kids, in front of the Olympic torch!

what is the best thing about your role at lululemon? most challenging?

The most challenging is to define a benefits philosophy/guiding principles that will be acceptable by all stake holders. This is the first step towards having a consistent benefits strategy.

The best thing is that I get to work with great, optimistic people with many goals and full of good ideas. I really enjoy talking to our educators and asking them what they think about our benefits offering, and getting suggestions that may help improve what we are doing in this area.

If you're interested in joining Gerardo at the Store Support Centre, check out our current opportunities.

This week we're switching things up and talking about the NEXT fresh face we'd love to see on this blog, which will be our newest Design Director!

Could it be you?

Our current Design Director, Jill, has grown up with lululemon and has a pretty inspirational story. Check it out.

Jill, looking out over Hong Kong.

what's your lululemon story?

I started working in our Toronto Queen Street West Store while I was going to school in 2003. I finished school the following year and moved to Vancouver to work on the design team.

I would always make sure I talked to Chip or Deanne whenever they were in Toronto and just let them know that I really wanted to work on the Design team and that it was in my goals. In fact, it was in my goals to be the Director of Design within 10 years, and lo and behold I achieved this goal through hard work but in 5 years time!

Now I am living my dream job and loving it, and it's time to live the rest of my dream life too! I will be having my first child with my husband in September!

Next on the list? A marathon next year! (Great way to lose the baby weight!)

Taking part in a photo shoot!

what has been the best part about being the design director? most challenging?

The best part is working with creative, passionate people everyday in an open and supportive environment. Most challenging? Hmmm... it has been such a great learning curve, I would have to say the most challenging thing has been deciding to be great in my personal life too, and leave this job that I love so much (if only for a short while).

biggest goal you've accomplished while at lululemon?

I have a few I would love to share:

I got married

I achieved the role of Design Director

I ran my first half marathon

I conceived my first child

Have you ever called the Guest Education Centre with a crazy question? If yes, you know that you are greeted with an incredibly knowledgeable, fun and experienced educator who knows the difference between Senorita Pink and Fruity Tootie and can bring the store experience to you on the phone. It's time to meet the freshest faces to join the team!

This fantastic group of people support our guests, stores, ecommerce team, and online communities. It's also a bit of an insider secret that the GEC is an awesome launching pad into other roles in the company-- just ask our Public Relations Coordinator, Lindsay, or our Online Community Manager, Carolyn!

Right now the GEC is growing. Meet Robin and Jennifer, the newest GECers:

meet robin

Robin, living the West Coast dream!

what is your most memorable childhood experience?

Family vacations. Almost every year on Christmas break or summer vacation we would pile into the family car and drive from Ontario to Nova Scotia and spend two weeks there. They were never big or fancy but definitely something I’ve always treasured.

why did you join lululemon?

About 10 months ago I decided to move out to BC to pursue a career goal in firefighting. I began my search for a flexible job that would help me reach my goals. lululemon stood out and I’ve been with the company a month and a half now. It's not only congruent with my life style but my values, too.

Robin, when he's not at the GEC!

what's your favourite way to sweat?

Pumping iron! No better feeling than putting those numbers up and reaching your goals.

who/what inspires you?

My family inspires me. I’ve been blessed to have some really amazing teachers and role models. Other things that have had a great impact on my life are: arts, culture, traveling, and the amazing people I’ve met along the way.

what’s your BHAG (big, hairy, audacious goal)?

Although its sort of an 'on the spot BHAG' I can honestly say that owning my own fitness centre/health store is something I would thoroughly enjoy.

meet jennifer

One of Jennifer's biggest passions is dancing. Here she is on stage performing.

what has been the biggest surprise working for lululemon?

How much everyone here cares about each other personally as well as professionally. This really goes to show how support from peers speeds up progress, as everyone here is striving for and achieving goals every single day. It amazes me just how much positivity is in this one room as a result of the ongoing support and encouragement from others.

what is your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate. I have a stash in my desk at all times.

what are you passionate about?

I have a passion for life, but if I had to be specific, my passion lies in dance. I have wild dreams about performing in huge venues, and I can talk about dance for hours on end. It’s my way of expressing myself and inspiring others to live their dreams as well.

what drives you crazy?

Fruit salad/mixed fruit cups—I have a distaste for oranges in my fruit salad/mixed fruit cups. The citrus flavor contaminates everything and you can’t enjoy your other fruits!

what quote/piece of advice has had the biggest impact on you?

"When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” There’s a positive and a creative way to look at all situations. Things are never as bad as they seem at first.

More exciting opportunities for fresh educator faces are popping up at the GEC! Visit http://tbe.taleo.net/NA1/ats/careers to find out more.

All our Canadian east coasters should keep an eye out for our first ever Human Resource Partner based out of Toronto, Jocelyn! With 17 stores in Ontario alone, we figured it was essential to have some awesome HR talent on the ground.

Jocelyn's nephew welcoming her in Toronto.

what are the biggest surprises since joining the team?

The culture lives throughout the company. I knew that lululemon’s culture was strong, but it has been so amazing working with such an open and supportive team throughout my on-boarding.

Jocelyn's smiling face!

during the olympics, what was your favourite experience?

The first was watching Alex Bilodeau win the first Olympic Gold medal. Every Canadian was proud to have our first gold medal winner be someone who was so deserving. Secondly, I landed in Vancouver the night Canada won the gold medal men’s hockey game. The city was alive and everyone was celebrating the end of an amazing Olympic 2 weeks. It was amazing to be in Vancouver for that last night.

what is a recent goal you've accomplished?

I recently purchased my home here in Toronto. I made it a goal to find a loft that I loved as much as the one I had in Vancouver and not settle until I find the right one. A year after moving to Toronto, I found my place!

Jocelyn, with her sisters and nephew in Toronto!

what inspires you?

One of my favourite quotes has always been, "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” These words are powerful. It’s easy to get comfortable or to give in to our fears. I read this quote and it gives me that extra push to take the first step to try something new and encourages me during difficult time.

Also, so many members of the lululemon team I have met are incredibly inspiring. I have already met people who have quit their jobs to go on trips they never dreamed they could do, who have ran marathons as though it was as easy as a walk around the block. It's inspiring to see people that come to work each day and recognize the possibility in their team and support eac other to accomplish goals.

For all you other HR buffs out there who sigh with relief when you step on your yoga mat or tie up your runners, our HR team is growing fast and there are opportunities in Vancouver and the US right now. You can check out the roles on the careers website.

Ever thought about working at a lululemon store? Great news - we're hiring! Every holiday season we hire seasonal educators to join our team. What you may not know is that after the holidays are over, many seasonal positions turn into permanent part-time or full-time positions. It's like the gift that keeps on giving!

A team that jumps together, stays together!

Here's what to expect from the seasonal hiring process:

your local lululemon puts the word out on the street

To find if your lululemon is hiring for the holidays, you can:

- check their store web page
- search our careers section
- check their Facebook page. Here's a list of our stores on Facebook
- ask someone you know who works there already
- drop in to the store to chat in person! (This way your future team can put a face to a name, too.)

Each store's hiring process is slightly different. This year lululemon Kingston is holding a loveyourjob fair for seasonal hiring - find the details here.

the group interview

The group interview is meant to be an opportunity to learn more about what it might be like to work at the store, meet the people you'll be working closely with, and share more about yourself. Wear comfortable clothes, be yourself, and be prepared for impromptu downward dogs!

Staff meeting at our new Palm Beach Gardens, Florida location - opening Oct. 30!

the one-on-one

Stores want their seasonal hires to potentially turn into members of their team. After the group interview, managers send out invitations for one-on-one meetings. This is another chance to shine and ask any other questions you may have. Got goals? Hope so! Be prepared to answer what your 1, 5, and 10-year plans are. Need help? Check out goaltender!

lululemon La Jolla's staff wall of goals. View their educator job postings here.

frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

Dress comfortably. Be yourself. Elissa says "don't wear heels."

How do I prepare for the group interview?

Ask yourself what you like about lululemon and why you're interested in joining the team. Other than that, expect the unexpected - anything can happen!

How do I prepare for the one-on-one interview?

This is the more "regular" interview: questions, availability, goals, etc. Remember that "Preparing for Interviews" lecture from your guidance counselor in high school? It's like that.

Do I need to be a product expert?

It helps, but your biggest asset is a keen, teachable spirit. The team shares a pool of knowledge, and you can tap into that pool once you jump into the deep end.

Guerilla yoga could be part of your job! Pictured above: lululemon 4th St. braving the Calgary cold.

Being part of the seasonal team gives you the chance to see if you're a good fit with lululemon, participate in community yoga classes and events, and learn more about the culture. Oh, and make some extra spending money over the holidays. If you've ever thought about what it might be like to work at a lululemon, now is a great time to find out.

Get out there! We're waiting for you!

Meet Tanya, our sister company ivivva athletica's product developer. Read below to get a sneak peek into a day in her life!

7 am - I’m busing to the office, with A New Earth in my lap. lululemon’s book club, Bibliophilia, is focusing on chapter 3 this week: The Core of Ego. Reading on my commute is a great opportunity to get some perspective before the momentum of the day takes hold.

8 am - I open my inbox to a flood of emails. Our off-shore factory partners have responded to the requests for samples and questions about garment construction that I sent the night before. We are on a tight schedule, so it’s important that my correspondence is as clear and thorough as possible.

9:30 am - It’s time to prepare sample packages to send to our vendors. Based on comments made at the yesterday’s fitting, I update the technical sketches and bill of materials for each style. I am working against a deadline, as the parcels need to be at reception before FedEx arrives!

12:30 pm - I head down to the Store Support Centre’s yoga studio for an energizing Vinyasa class. A yoga break keeps me sharp and motivated for the rest of the day!

1:30 pm - I grab my lunch and meet with ivivva athletica’s designer, Jennie Lam, to fit samples on a mannequin. Today’s agenda includes approving pre-production samples for Winter 2009 and marking new design lines on styles for Summer 2010. Yesterday we fit size runs, my favourite type of fitting! When a style is close to being finalized, we will order a prototype in every size we plan to carry. Fit models, sized 6-12, will visit the office to test each style’s fit, function and comfort level. It is amazing to meet the end users of our products (and their parents!). We get great feedback from these sessions that influences future decisions and helps to elevate the line.

2:30 pm - The remainder of the day is dedicated to colourways. Each season, it is the product developer’s responsibility to record every colourway a style is offered in, as well as the colours of every fabric and trim in each of those versions. With over 70 styles planned, it is a meticulous job, but I love how strategic I need to be to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

5:00 pm - It’s a brisk, sunny day, so I slip on my running shoes and jog the 10km home. It’s the perfect time to set goals for the day ahead and to revel in the beauty of our city!

I never applied to work for lululemon. In fact, I was actually going to a job interview at a local restaurant, dressed to impress, when I stopped into my neighborhood store and my world turned on its axis. I had just achieved a big life goal: “I leave the security of suburbia and move into the big bad city before my twentieth birthday.” (Attention please: my goal is SMART. Not sure what I’m talking about? Check out GOALTENDER.) My favorite groove pants apparently did not share my vision of moving into Vancouver’s West End and they got lost in transition. I decided to replace them on the way to my interview. The Robson location was busy as usual, and I casually wandered through the bustling sea of tourists and locals.

Ananda was waiting for me at the pant wall and we became instant friends – she was incredibly helpful and had an infectious personality. I told her that I wished that I could come to work in flip-flops and comfy pants, not the impending pencil skirts and heels.

“You can!” she exclaimed, as she took my hand and boldly escorted me to the front of the store to meet the manager. Hilarious. Only at lululemon. We had an on-the-spot interview, and I was invited to attend a group interview that week.

Fast-forward to the big day:
I was well-versed in my interview responses.
I picked out a nice outfit – and hooray! no heels included.
I planned my bus route and made sure that I had enough time to arrive EARLY.

To my dismay, the good people running the buses that fateful day were behind the eight ball. This, combined with my total lack of knowledge for the city’s streets, successfully made me twenty minutes late for my interview. It was the grossest feeling. I felt like I lost before I even got my chance. The whole interview was a fantastic blur of ingenuity - nothing like I had ever experienced - but I don’t really remember anything except the gut-rot I felt for being late. When it was over, I think I apologized five times to the girls hosting the interview.

“Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle setbacks.” The thing about being put in a challenging situation is that it brings out your true colors. I didn’t feel like a confident Chili red; instead I was more like a sedated Sand, but they liked what they saw, and I got the job! My journey has had some interesting ups and downs in the five years I have been with the company, which I look forward to sharing with you. I continue to challenge myself, and continue to realize some really amazing goals along the way. (This includes meeting the man of my dreams - stay tuned for that one.)

If you are considering an opportunity with us – GO FOR IT! If you want to pick my brain and hear more about my time with lululemon, EMAIL me (Attn: Elissa at gec@lululemon.com). I’m happy to be your personal cheerleader. My first advice nugget to all you ladies and gentlemen out there getting ready for an interview? Don’t wear heels.

Come join the team and check out some of the cool jobs we have in the company!

Melissa is a do-er, and though I haven't worked directly with her (yet!) she is known around the lululemon parts as someone who gets stuff done!

What do you do at lululemon?

I’m a Project Coordinator ... "What does that mean?" is usually the next question I get. Basically I manage the process of construction related projects. I do this for showrooms, minor works (adding slat walls, adding lighting, replacing floors etc), sweeps program, and open re-models (a renovation done on a store while it remains open).

What is a typical Monday like?

Oh Mondays... bike to work, Store Dev construction call where we discuss the progress of each new store we are working on, lots of email catch up, circuit training, get down to business. I like to leave Mondays somewhat free from meetings because there is lots of catch up from the weekend. You have to play the coast game, send out a bunch of emails Friday afternoon and by the time you get in Monday morning all your east coast people have gotten back to you, very helpful.

What are your quotes to live by?

Live simply, speak kindly, love generously, care deeply.

How do you sweat once a day?

Bike, circuit training and now the Grouse Grind. I like to mix it up or I get bored.

What is your 10 year goal?

Hmmm…. Blissfully married to the man of my dreams, living in Vancouver by the beach, working part time, traveling the rest.
