why we love it

A Vancouver winter is made up of a whole lot of rain, short dark days and really long nights. We designed the Run: Reflective Jacket with these conditions in mind. The reflective, four-way-stretch iLUminate fabric gives us the freedom to shine bright and move without restriction. Power Luxtreme™ fabric cuffs and collar, music storage and bonded seams make this jacket winter run ready. Looks like the dark days are over!

the girl behind the design: lauren powell

My Dad was in the Coast Guard when I was young so I grew up all over the United States (from the East Coast to the West Coast). After graduating from Tulane University in New Orleans (an amazing city that will always have a special place in my heart), I went to design school at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in  NYC. Since graduating, I have designed collections for Reebok and Ralph Lauren, collaborated on designs with Cirque Du Soleil and launched a new contemporary collection based in NYC.

I joined lululemon a little more than one year ago, and what an amazing year I have had – I get to work for an amazing company in my favourite city. Winter 2012 was my first design season with lululemon. Seeing my designs in our stores, and on the street is incredible.

When you designed the Run: Reflective Jacket what run-specific problem(s) did you set out to solve? What inspired your design?
Short wintery days can make running a dim prospect. I designed this fully reflective, super technical jacket to be the ultimate night, and early morning running piece. Clean lines and a sleek silhouette make it easy to move, and the amazing iLUminate fabric helps motorists, cyclists and pedestrians see you coming. Good news for all involved.
What kind of fabric is used to make this jacket shine?
This jacket is made with our fully reflective iLUminate fabric. This jacket helps you shine and it is also really stretchy so you can move without restriction.
What's your favourite key feature?
There are lots of goodies built into this jacket. Bonded seams give the jacket a clean and smooth interior to help cut down on the chances of chafe, the collar is lined with Power Luxtreme™ fabric for a soft feeling against your skin, and lasercut venting under the arms helps keep you cool. There's also a media port in the chest pocket. It lets you channel your headphones inside the jacket, which helps keep the cord from bouncing around while you run.

I love an early morning workout. Running in the morning is such an incredible way to wake up and start the day. What's better than a long run along the East River as the sun rises over the city!

Reflective swift fabric has all of the same great features as our cherished swift run fabric, but it has reflective yarns woven right into the material. This means that it will never wear off, and that you will have reflectivity for the life of the garment. Another cool feature of this fabric is that you will most often see it hidden in a plaid or a stripe pattern, and will only notice the reflective yarns when they light up. Without further ado, allow us to introduce you to the Run:Reflection Vest & Skirt.

The Run:Reflection Vest is a perfect option for running outdoors, hiking, and cycling, especially if outside light is not optimal. It is extremely light weight and ready for the changing elements with a DWR (Durable Water Resistant) finish that will keep you dry. The reflective swift panels are hidden as silver stripes in this version of the vest, so don't worry you won't light up in line at Whole Foods.

The Run:Reflection Skirt is an awesome skirt to run in! It is very comfortable, and the pleats move with you and not against your moving legs. The Coolmax liner is very light, will keep you from chafing and keeps you covered through your strides. The skirt is really perfect for any runner, particularly road runners who need to be seen by cars at night.
