travelling yogi tips

travel tips for yoga from lululemon

Taking your downdog on the road? Our ambassador Nicky Poole from lululemon Cumberland Street writes about her favourite items to travel in.

I travel regularly for yoga: to conferences, retreats and teacher trainings. Over the years I've perfected the art of travelling light, travelling smart, and using multi-purpose items on my journeys!

from plane to practice

The Groove Pants are my favourite long pant and they take me easily from the airplane to yoga practice. I love that even short legs look loooong in these! I always pair these with the bright coloured tanks and bras. The fitted nature of the Power Y Tank is ideal for yoga practice – I never have to worry about my clothing revealing more than it should when I am upside down.

staying warm in the airport

Airports and planes are always freezing, therefore a snug jacket is essential. I love the Define Jacket, as it offers a streamlined layer over tanks and has thumb holes to keep my hands nice and warm when they aren’t stuffed in my pockets.

My new favourite lululemon item this Fall is the multi-purpose Vinyasa Scarf, made of the softest running luon. I wrap it around myself for early morning meditation, use it as a full body blanket for Savasana, fasten the snaps around my waist to create a cute hooded sweater, and use it as a baby blanket for my kids!

pockets are key

For my carry-on, I really like the Fast In Flight bag for all the easy-access external pockets and convenient internal compartments for your personal belongings. My laptop fits in here, as well as a full change of clothes and my mat. Genius.

travelling yoga accessories from lululemon

My yoga mat and towel are always packed as they offer great quality practice gear for minimal weight. Lastly, a water bottle. Wide neck, easy to guzzle from after class, cute colours, need I say more?

nicky's upcoming travel plans

  • Kripalu in October for my annual period of personal retreat and study with my teacher Shiva Rea
  • Weekend retreat in Miami from November 18 - 21, on behalf of 889 Yonge.

I have this bag and love it however, I was never able to figure out what all the compartments do. Can you please go into detail? Also, it states that there is a waterproof removable pouch, where is this located?

Thanks!

hi,
i’m just wondering, which mat do you have, for travel? i also travel a lot and i can never bring my regular mat, so i’ve been shopping around for a lighter, more convenient one.

thanks!

Hi Liz,
We don’t have the Fast In Flight Bag in coal embossed sketchy manifesto available online at the moment, but we might be able to find it for you through phone sales: 1.877.263.9300 option #2.

We also just released a new version of the FIF, dubbed the “Fast In Flight Tote”. It’s made of puffy nylon and has all the storage of the Fast In Flight Bag! Check it out: http://bit.ly/9N7jIj

Hi Juliet! The mat shown in the photos above is our Align Ultra Mat (http://bit.ly/bF4OA5). It is much lighter than the Manduka Yoga Mat (http://bit.ly/cdFBR4) or The Mat (http://bit.ly/bDgoGN), making it easy to carry when you travel! It also comes in several colours so you can pick your favourite!

Cheers,
Laura

Hi Laura,

Since you just released the FIF Tote, does this mean you won’t be stocking any more of the original FIF? I’m 5’2″ and I’m already worried the original bag will be too large on me, but the quilting on the Tote makes it look even larger!

Thanks.

Hey Avril,

I’m not sure if we’ll be seeing more of the Fast in Flight Bag as our newer style is the “puffy” Fast in Flight Tote. We have new bag options coming out all the time though, so keep your eyes peeled for a style that works for you!

Have a great day!

Hi Kelly! It’s our “I ‘heart’ yoga” bottle. If you’re in the US, you can find it on our website here: http://bit.ly/oIbt7c If not, pop into your local store to see what they have in stock.
