up close with the run:sun blocker

At lululemon, we want you to have a fun, active, and safe summer, so without further ado allow us to introduce your skin to UPF Sheer Jersey! Our designers have created a new fabric called UPF Sheer Jersey thanks to the feedback of our hot climate athletes who wanted more sun protection in a light weight option. Most UPF fabrics are considered thick, but we've been able to keep ours very thin and lightweight. So get ready to move this summer!

January & Pico run the Cove

why we made this

The Run:Sun Blocker LS was designed for running in the sun without worrying about UV (Ultraviolet) rays harming your skin. It is constructed of UPF Sheer Jersey and Circle Mesh.

Run:Sun Blocker LS

Lightweight UPF sheer jersey provides sun coverage and wicks moisture with an excellent UPF rating. The UPF Sheer Jersey has been strategically placed in high-exposure areas, such as the forearms and chest, to give additional sun coverage where you need it most.

UPF Sheer Jersey

Block out the sun

Made with circle mesh panels along the sidebody, which provides extra breathability. Circle Mesh has excellent wicking capabilities, but does not offer UPF coverage (it has holes!). The top is also flat seamed for chafe resistance & comfort in your runs.

Circle Mesh

Body skimming fit so it won't cling as you get moving.

Body skimming fit.

Hidden back pocket for lightweight belongings.

Hidden Pockets

Thumbholes to keep your sleeves in place, and your arms fully protected from the sun's rays.

Here is a video from our Product Trainer with more information about UPF Sheer Jersey:

Although the Sun Blocker LS was not made to be a replacement for sunscreen, it was made to give you additional sun coverage where you need it most. So go have an active, fun and safe summer! Namaste.

Anything like this coming for men?

Comment by Brian — May 18, 2010 @ 6:41 am

Hi Brian! No word yet on whether we’ll see something similar to the Run: Sun Blocker for men. I’ll pass it on to design that you’d like to see one.

Ditto…want to see this for men. I have one, but the bf is jealous and wants a sunblocker for himself!

Same with me. My husband loves the pullover concept for a sunblocker shirt and wants one as well.

I see this shirt is no longer available. What a shame. It looks gorgeous and I bet is a comfy too. I am writing in hoping it will make a come back!

Fingers crossed

are there any short sleeve t-shirts or tanks with this same upf protection? does the luon offer any known level of sun protection? thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

Comment by lauren — January 30, 2011 @ 10:25 pm

Hey Lauren,
Thanks for taking the time to post your question! Right now we don’t have any product that contains the same lightweight UPF sheer jersey that was used for last year’s Summer line. All clothing will offer some level of protection based on the thickness and weave of the fabric, so yes, luon will give you some level of sun protection.

I want this back!!! When will you be making more of the upf clothing. This is the best material ever and I want it for my Husband too. He is a dermatologist and we hide from the sun.

Hey Lay,

I’m not sure if we’ll be seeing any UPF clothing this season, but stay tuned in the next few months, while new Spring and Summer products hit the floors weekly!

Please please please make these tops again! PLEASE!

Comment by Melody — August 19, 2011 @ 9:05 am

I agree, come out with one for men.

I do not like the sun shirt that is in the stores right now…. June 2012. The Sun Blocker from a few years ago looks so much more what I am looking for. Please make more of the shirt pictured above. No ruffles and a tighter fit.

When are you coming out with the sun blocker shirt for 2013? When will it be in the stores?

Comment by conor — April 15, 2013 @ 9:27 am

Hi Conor,
We tend to see gear with UPF come out mid-year. Keep a close eye on your product notifications to stay in the loop with what new gear is out at your local store or online. Any specifics you’d love to see this season?

Please please please make a sun shirt w/a hood again! I bought the one you had last year and wore it to go hiking, however, it had to go back after the hike because it held stink– you need to combine UPF with silverescent technology. Once you do all that, make it in aqua!
