the key to nine months of comfort

lululemon in the park

We often get asked here at lululemon whether or not we have a maternity line. The truth is, many of our products are already perfect for growing with your body before, throughout, and after your pregnancy. The reason? Four-way stretch and flattering cuts designed to show off your curves.

Here's a few expecting moms we grabbed from the Vancouver Store Support Centre office for an impromptu photoshoot at the park for a little more on what they've been wearing and loving during their pregnancy:

Tell us about your nine-month uniform: What I'm wearing today at six months pregnant is no different than what I would've worn before being pregnant. My lululemon clothes take me from circuit class to the office to home and will stretch with me throughout my pregnancy. I’ve been living in my Wonder Unders and Groove Pants, and layering with Pima cotton tees and tanks.

Tell us about your nine-month uniform: lululemon is perfect to wear during my pregnancy because it is comfortable, functional, and fashionable all at the same time. I wear my lululemon clothes to work out, run errands on the weekends, and to the office. I love that the luon is so comfortable and stretches with my growing belly. My favorite pieces of clothing to wear during my pregnancy are the Movement Tank, Groove Down Pant, and to keep me cozy, the Savasana Wrap.

Tell us about your nine-month uniform: All I am wearing these days is lululemon. All I can say is 4 way stretch – it is so comfortable! My favorite pieces are my Wonder Unders and Cool racer back tanks, I love to layer with them! I know I will continue to live in my lululemon clothes once I am a momma, it just makes me feel good!

Awesome post! Beautiful Moms to be!

Another pair of pants that are ideal pre and post pregnancy are the Be Still Pant! I have a number of friends that just had babies that have spent the last year of their lives in those pants.

Alana, I love this! I have 3 different girlfriends who are pregnant, all carrying their babies differently and all living in lululemon! Here in San Diego if you want to be a hit at a baby shower, you bring the mama the Dance Twisted Tank or Pima t-s. So cute over bellies!

True, I wore my Lululemons almost all the way through my twin pregnancy and then again post-natal. It is so comfortable. I love it.

I wore lululemon all through pregnancy and it went back to its original shape afterwards. It was comfortable and the waist just grew with me. I would recommend the Still Pants (can be worn over or under the belly), Grooves (as you get bigger just fold the band in half), Off Count Roll Down or any other fold down waist, and the cool racer backs or power y for the extra length. For jackets- the she bop was awesome! Thanks lululemon for making a “maternity line” that you can wear before, during and after!

Love it! I’ve been living in my Lulus throughout my pregnancy – at 7.5 months with twins I’m loving the Groove pants, Jesus pants, tata tamer, and cotton shirts. My Lulu gear has also been with me for the transition from marathons to spin classes (I’m not allowed to run now) and I’ve even dawned the skirt to work a few times.

Comment by Amber Taylor — May 20, 2009 @ 6:02 pm

I too wore lulu throughout my entire pregnancy. Be still pants were awesome. My only trouble was finding a tank/bra to accommodate my rapidly enlarging chest, and finding one that was comfortable enough to wear for longer than a workout. Nursing was tough in the tanks, so I had to put those aside for most of the year. I’m back to wearing them now though!

Comment by Kristin — May 21, 2009 @ 8:16 pm

Stills, savasana, cool back for me! Oh and the pima cotton tees and the lightweight, nearly sheer wraps:)

What happened to Lulu’s maternity line?

I had a yummy mummy tank in 2004 and the Fame Crops, which were essentially maternity pants!

And why don’t they make toddler’s clothes anymore – they had them in Toronto a few years ago at Xmastime.

Thanks for the tip Bianca! Right you are – she was wearing the Remix Hoodie Lux! Thanks so much for pointing that out.

The LuLuLemon Halifax store opened right smack in the middle of my pregnancy!! So at first I was bummed because I thought I wouldn’t be able to wear anything but was quickly pleasantly suprised that I could, and I did! In fact I wore my black groove pants into the hospital the night I went into labour!
Now that my baby girl is 7 months old I still wear everything I bought, and of course have bought more since! I can be comfortable, without looking like a frumpy mom! :)

I am five months pregnant and am soooo grateful to have lululemon to wear!!!! I am so lucky to be able to wear such comfortable clothes to work during my pregnancy, and all other times for that matter! My fave pants are the Hip Pants…they go right under my belly! The Dance Strap tank is my tank of choice during my pregnancy….in fact all of our tanks are perfect since they are all long enough to cover my growing belly and stretch without stretching out!

I am 7 months pregnant, an avid yogi, and a huge fan of the be still crop, but am very disappointed with the lack of pregnancy-specific lulu clothes. I have not found a top that will work – maybe it’s because we have a small store in Halifax, but I found very little choice. I would have thought the company would have been more active at producing maternity clothes.

Comment by Nancy — May 28, 2009 @ 5:29 pm

Ooops -spelling error -yogini! BTW, has anyone used a lulu bag for a diaper bag? All those pockets and clever design seem perfect!

am 16 wks pregnant. just wondering if i should get my regular size 2 lulu clothing or should i get a bigger size as the tummy & breasts expands..

Comment by Emma — July 31, 2010 @ 9:35 am

I remember Lululemon making a maternity specific tank a few years back. It flew off the racks before I could get one – PLEASE bring it back!

Comment by Marie — December 18, 2010 @ 10:27 am

As an instructor, Lululemon has been my uniform of choice for years. But now that I’m pregnant I didn’t believe that you can wear theese clothes with a growing belly. But I’m 6 months now and a total believer! Sure, I went up a size, but my Lululemon tops are more flattering (and much more comfortable) than some of my maternity clothes from maternity designers. Like always, some styles work better than others, but the store manager in my local store was very pregnant herself and gave great advice. Finally! Flattering maternity workout clothes!

Comment by Caryn — December 7, 2011 @ 4:10 am

This is my first pregnancy so I thought I would see if lulu had maternity line. I’m so happy to hear that mostly gear will grow with me and help me keep active!

Comment by Lana Daurie — December 29, 2011 @ 3:32 pm

I love the yellow jacket. Very cute.

Comment by Mya Maternity — January 21, 2012 @ 11:46 am

I really wish you had maternity specific clothing. True, you can wear your current clothing, but I found that after I lost the baby weight some of my pants had stretched too much to accomodate my belly.

As someone else mentioned, the shirts get tight pretty quick with a growing chest. A shirt that is adjustable and maternity specific would be great.

And finally, what about nursing moms? It is very difficult to breastfeed in a sweaty-tight sports bra. I would love to have a lululemon nursing sports bra and tanks with nursing flaps. My fellow stoller bootcamp mom friends agree!

Thanks for listening!

I’m really wishing I was still living in a country with Lululemon stores as, at 17 weeks pregnant I’ve grown out of almost all my beloved Lululemon workout clothes and have no store to replace them at. I’ve tried run-of=the-mill cotton maternity workout clothing, but it doesn’t come close to the comfort and quick drying of luon.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to sizing? I.e. should I order one or two sizes up from what I was wearing before? I was hoping to order a few pieces online, ship to my mom in the US and have her bring them over to the UK when she visits next month.

Comment by Heather — July 27, 2012 @ 10:08 am

I am only 16 weeks pregnant and I do not agree with any of these comments. I have a multitude of tops and bottoms from lululemmon. NONE of my pants are wearable. Of course I can get them on but they are not at all comfortable anymore, and they certainly aren’t flattering. Yes, my tops still fit but, again, not flattering. Would they be better if I went up a size or two? Yeah probably, but who has the money for that!? I’ve already invested a small fortune, and I’m really disappointed that I’ve only gained 8 pounds and I can’t wear anything I have.

Comment by Rachel — September 28, 2012 @ 11:30 am

Oh my!! So cute… Proud to say Lululemon started in Canada!! This is exactly what the doctor ordered for active, expectant moms. SO comfy… I lived in my yoga pants while pregnant.

Comment by Trendy Tummy Maternity — October 27, 2012 @ 1:53 pm

Just be careful about the stretch! I wore my groove pants during my first pregnancy and they are now stretched out despite the fact I only gained 19lbs in that pregnancy. I still wear them occasionally but am constantly pulling them up. I bought a smaller pair of crops and wore them during my second pregnancy and for whatever reason they held up fine.

Comment by Amanda — January 10, 2013 @ 11:50 am

Just found out I’m preggers and was wondering if I should buy something slightly larger now so it stretches better or would all of my existing clothes grow with me? I’m only size6 right now.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Victoria,
I’ve heard from other pregnant guests that they usually tend to size up in their gear. If you have looser-fitting gear at the moment, you might grow into those pieces in the upcoming months. We’d love to connect with you and chat product so feel free to give us a ring at the GEC (1.877.263.9300).

I’m 6 months post partum and I’m just now jumping on the LLL bandwagon. I’m currently living in my astro wunder under crops and coolracerback tanks. They are perfect for a new mommy! I SO wish I had these pieces for both my pregnancies. I think it depends on your body type and how you gain weight in your pregnancy. I’m very petite (5’0″) and I gained about 25 lbs with both pregnancies. I sized up for yoga clothes for my 1st pregnancy, but I was left with several pieces are too big for me to wear now. So for my second pregnancy I stayed with my true size and I was still able to wear them all the way through (and my belly stuck out about a mile!). I would highly recommend the astro waistband and the CRBs for mamas to be. The CRBs are great to nurse in as well!

Comment by Dewa — February 21, 2013 @ 8:15 am

I love my astro crops and astro wunder under. The astro waistband fits well under the growing belly. I will however have to size up for tank tops and bras. The lenght of cool racerbacks is perfect to cover the belly.

Comment by Josee — May 20, 2013 @ 3:34 am

I wore lululemon all throughout my pregnancy! My favorite top was the no limits tank, it definitely grew with my belly! Unfortunately lulu doesn’t have any nursing friendly tops, please come up with some nursing friendly tops! If you ever need help or ideas I would love to give feedback as I workout everyday and am a stay at home mama to my little one.

Comment by Chantal Guidi — June 24, 2013 @ 8:02 pm

wearing my lulu tanks throughout is soo comfortable!

Comment by erin — August 6, 2013 @ 2:09 pm

I disagree with this article. Lulu needs at least a small line of pregnancy specific clothing. I have 4 more months and my lulu pants are uncomfortable in the belly. I’ve looked around and there are few options for leggings in a wicking material with the belly band. It’s a missed opportunity for Lulu. My options are limited to online stores and brands I’ve never worn. Of course I would prefer to order lulu, I know my sizing already and I know the quality I’m going to get. All my lulu shirts do still fit comfortably.
