Reprising a summer yoga series is like listening to the much-anticipated follow-up to your favourite band’s breakout album - you never know if it’s going to fit right in to your existing playlist or stick out like a tight hip in half-pigeon.
Fortunately, we recognized a good thing when we saw it and knew we had to bring back Yoga Unplugged, Toronto’s most-Instagrammed outdoor yoga series, without making any crazy changes. That doesn’t mean we won’t be elevating Yoga Unplugged Volume II with some pretty sweet surprises - think of it as a remix that makes you love the original even more.
Did you miss out on last summer’s weekly performance of over 100 yogis getting together on the deck of the Thompson Hotel with our fave 889 Yoga instructors and a giant sound system? Here’s what Volume II feels like:
It’s a Saturday afternoon and the sun is shining. You and your friends stroll in to the coolest hotel in the city, yoga mats under your arms. As you ride the elevator up to the third floor, you can already hear the music playing and it feels kind of like you just scored tickets to SXSW. When you step outside on to the sundrenched deck, you take in the bustle of Toronto from beyond the balcony and unroll your mat – it’s time to jam.
why we love this
The raddest rockstar yogi leads you through a seriously sweaty practice, accompanied by her favourite tunes. Eventually Old-School Divas begins to bleed into Bob Marley and before you know it you’ve flowed through the soundtrack to your entire summer. And to think, all you needed was your mat!
Yoga Unplugged kicked off on Saturday July 22 at the Thompson Hotel, 550 Wellington St W in Toronto, and will run every Saturday until August 24. For set lists and times, or to catch weekly photos of you and your friends dancing through down dog, check out www.facebook.com/yogaunplugged. Joining us on the deck this summer?
