Alissa’s first yoga class was about six years ago at the ladies gym where she was working, in a wide open floor space, in the middle of the weight machines and cardio equipment. She had been practicing yoga on her own, from magazines mostly, and saw it as a way to stay flexible while the weights kept her strong. Throughout the class, the teacher talked of life and practice and her own experiences. At the end of the class, she had the class Om (Aum) many times. This was all very new (and a little strange) to Alissa at the time. As she deepened her practice and after a car accident changed her practice she fell in love with yoga on a new, more holistic, level. Colleen has always been involved in fitness. Running races is her passion along with squash, golf, kayaking and hiking. If its an outside activity, she's in! Colleen values fitness and nutrition as 2 key reasons for longevity and health and wants to help you benefit from them! She has many years experience managing, coaching, leading and teaching as a computer instructor, fitness leader and motivational speaker, combined with her fitness knowledge and a sense of humor. Her goal is to keep you positive and motivated during the tough workouts and provide a service of excellence. I started CrossFit in May 2009. Before then I had done some long distance running. But the constant pounding on the pavement resulted in a knee injury. So, I stopped running, felt sorry for myself for a couple of years and put on 20 lbs. In May 2009, I was growing very restless. I kept pinching the spare tire I had while I sat at my computer and kept thinking, "I've got to do something about this!" But what? I didn't want to get a gym membership because I knew it would be a waste of time. I envisioned going to the gym, wandering around wondering what to do, being intimidated by the "Mayors of the Gym", ultimately running on a treadmill then giving up after a month.
