My name is Marla Maupin and I grew up in Plano, Texas. Although I played sports in high school and have always believed in living a healthy lifestyle, I did not get seriously involved in running until after college. I quickly realized I need an outlet to deal with the stress involved in working in the corporate world. I began running local 5k and 10k races and then the distance bug hit me. I have completed 7 marathons, including the 2009 Boston Marathon and numerous half marathons. I have been involved in the DFW running community for the past 10 years, coaching several local running programs; I have extensive experience coaching runners at all levels. I love to motivate and inspire people; nothing makes me happier than to see someone achieve their goals.
In 2009 I discovered Crossfit Strong and my training perspective completely changed. The Crossfit philosophy is simple - constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity. I realized that with the strength and conditioning I was gaining through Crossfit, I no longer needed to run 40-50 miles per week in order to train for distance races. Instead I could focus on the intensity and quality of each workout instead of focusing on quantity.
I am passionate about sharing this type of training with others; I believe every person that desires to run can successfully reach their goals using this methodology. I have had the privilege of coaching people that never considered themselves “runners” and watched them cross the finish line with not only a new physical appearance but most importantly an improved self esteem.
