I have always enjoyed exercise and living a healthy lifestyle. After moving back to the United States from Cozumel, Mexico; I was searching for something more than just another sweaty gym. Somehow, I stumbled into a yoga studio to take a belly dancing class, and in the end, the belly dancing didn’t stick but the yoga did. I found it to be so energizing and NOT BORING! I immediately fell in love with vinyasa flow based yoga. It is amazing the calmness that yoga has brought to my naturally “A” type personality life. I feel like I can finally really breathe again. After 5 years of practicing yoga, I wanted to share this life changing experience with others and I took the plunge and went through the 200 hour certification in 2008. It was one of the best things I have ever done with my... Read the profile >>

Ever since childhood, deAnna has been interested in how things work. Always a student, she practiced violin since age 9, was an avid bookworm and eventually went on to study Physics, Philosophy and Mathematics at NYU. Before discovering the practice of yoga in 1994, her search for freedom and deeper understanding was frequently more like a roller coaster ride and often confused with a need for a wide variety of experiences and sensations. After enough highs, lows, twists and turns, she eventually but inevitably found yoga. During a time in life when it felt like she had been there, done that and was enjoying an exciting and stressful career as a fashion editor in NYC, she found herself laying on the floor in her first yoga class crying for no reason. Something stirred in her soul that she... Read the profile >>
My yoga journey began in February of 2003 shortly after I moved to Dallas upon graduating from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. But in all actuality I've been on it my entire life. My parents taught me that things were never hopeless, not to let people or events affect you, that material things will not make you happy, and live for today. (True yogis and they didn't even know it!) They were and are the two most amazing people I will ever know. I truly believe that I found American Power Yoga because it was my life’s destiny. I was looking for something but had no idea what that might be. At this point in my life things were not good. I was unfocused, insecure, scared, unhealthy, and really missing my parents (By 1999 I had lost both of my parents to long battles of... Read the profile >>
I run to live and live to run! I grew up in Wisconsin, where I learned early on to appreciate the beauty of running along miles and miles of America’s dairyland. However, when it was time for college I was ready for a change of scenery, so I moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona where I majored in Marketing and Graphic Design. In Tucson, I ran my first half marathon and immediately fell in love with running in the desert, especially Sabino Canyon. Still not ready to stay put, I moved to Austin to pursue my Masters in Advertising at The University of Texas. In Austin, I discovered my passion for endurance running and ran my first marathon. After finishing graduate school, my husband and I moved to Boston. While in Boston, I traveled frequently while working for IBM and... Read the profile >>
Jenny’s approach to yoga has been with the attitude of "Learn from everyone, but your practice is your own." Her personal practice has been influenced by leaders in a variety of disciplines. With focus on efficiency through alignment, awareness and breath, Jenny has made a remarkable recovery from the crippling effects of rheumatoid arthritis. It’s Jenny’s experience of renewed body, mind and spirit that compels her to share. "When I learned, at age 20, that the pain I was experiencing was Rheumatoid Arthritis, I set out on a journey to wellness. I wasn't willing to risk the side effects of medications, so I learned to manage my health through nutrition. Though I was able to manage the disease enough to stay mobile, I had lost most of the strength and range of motion I once... Read the profile >>
Karen grew up in Texas, but did her yoga teacher training at Bikram's Yoga College of India in Los Angeles. During the intensive 9-week training, she met her (now) husband, David, and they grew together in strength: physical, mental, and emotional. They also learned the value of living in the present moment. After not too long, Karen moved back to Texas, specifically to Dallas to be with David. Together they've been running the Dallas Bikram Studio since November of 2003. Read the profile >>
My name is Keith Owens, Lead Spinning Instructor and Owner of Spin4life Studios, Inc. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, I lived in both Southern and Northern California where I competed in collegiate sports. I played Varsity football at San Diego State University and was in the best shape of my life. However, I was one of those athletes that when I finished with competition, I put on a lot of weight because the year -round training stopped. After realizing some of the health risks and long term effects of being overweight, I went back into the gym and dedicated myself to a healthier lifestyle. There were three areas of focus to get me back in shape: weight training, a healthier diet and cardiovascular endurance through Spinning. By competing and training for football at a high level, I was able... Read the profile >>

In the past, I was a very angry person and was a slave to my emotions. I had an extremely addictive personality that has endangered my life more than I’ll probably need to or want to know. In 2007, a dear friend brought me into my first yoga studio to try their classes. From the instant I walked into the studio, I was hooked (no pun intended). The classes offered me an escape from my addictions, and from my past. The studio offered me a sanctuary where I could work on myself with no judgement from the outside world. It really is true, you know? That,”whatever unfolds on your mat, unfolds in your life.” The more time I spent at the studio, the more centered and at peace I felt outside in the real world. I learned how to deal with life and it’s crazy ups and downs in a yogic way. I... Read the profile >>

From the momentum and rigor of Vinyasa to the peacefulness of Yin, all styles of yoga have a place in the heart of Susie Farnick. Her philosophy is simple: "YOGA IS FOR EVERYONE, and my job is to make it accessible." There seems to be a common misconception that Yoga is for the flexible, affluent, vegetarian "bend master" who can put their legs behind their head to reach enlightenment, but it's designed for all walks of life. Her most inspiring teacher? Matthew Sanford, a visionary of possibility and hope who teaches yoga from his wheelchair due to a devastating accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Yoga was introduced to me shortly after losing my mother to cancer. "I instantly found a sanctuary of healing and total mind, body and spiritual wellness from that small... Read the profile >>
