Michelle Johnson

I teach yoga in and around Carrboro/Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Yoga has transformed my life and I feel honored to be able to share my love of yoga with this community. I am passionate about individual and collective transformation. Moving in our bodies through the practice of yoga, becoming still in our minds with the practice of meditation, and learning to control the breath through pranayama, leads to transformation physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

In addition to teaching yoga I am a clinical social worker. In my private therapy practice I work with people who have been disembodied by trauma and oppression.

Yoga allows us to notice when we feel strong on the mat, when to take a break and allow rest and recovery in childs pose, and when to push a little further than we think we can and discover something new.

My inspirations include my partner Jeff, my dog Bella, all of my yoga students, my various teachers, my clients, Bell Hooks, Tara Brach, and Pema Chodron.

I recently went to Kenya as an ambassador with the Africa Yoga Project and I plan to return in January of 2013.
