“Full Speed Ahead!” should be printed on the front of all of Jessica’s T-shirts. Always, on the go and looking for the next competition, race, certification and costume contest, this CrossFitYogi has spent her lifetime staying active and busy with fun always in mind. Constantly updating the next challenge on her calendar has proved to be successful in keeping her prepared for whatever is next, but as life will have it, we are often thrown a few surprises and can’t always plan for things to come. Jessica fell in love with CrossFit for that reason. Doing workouts that include constantly varied functional movements has prepared Jessica for whatever unplanned activities come her way. Whether she wants to run a marathon, fill in for a last minute mud run or try an acro yoga class she is prepared for anything and everything through CrossFit training! CrossFit improves both strengths and weaknesses in all areas of fitness, which has lead Jessica to never ending growth as a competitor, coach, and just a regular girl who wants to feel great. Jessica has completed her CrossFit Level 1, CrossFit Power Lifting and CrossFit Mobility Certifications and is a USA Weightlifting Certified Coach. After meeting a powerful crew of hardworking people in the CrossFit community there is no turning back for Jessica. She has happily made running daily operations and coaching classes at Swamp Rabbit CrossFit her full time job. The SRCF athletes, who have become a second family, serve as her daily does of inspiration and she couldn’t think of a more fulfilling way to spend her days.
When running and lifting began to take a toll on tight muscles, Jessica, the lover of all things extreme decided to give hot sweaty power yoga a shot. With “power” in the name, Jess knew she’d be hooked. Jessica’s yoga practice initially started out as a fun new challenge for her body, but about a year into her practice she realized that the true challenge was much more than twisting herself into a pretzel. Clearing her mind with moving meditation and breathing practices, learning to slow down, be present, and be willing to let others see her wins, failures, smiles and tears has served to be far more challenging than mastering any of the poses. In 2012 Jessica chose to combine her love for her yoga practice with her love of teaching and completed her yoga teacher certification (RYT200) at Yoga One, a Baptiste Power Vinyasa Affiliate Studio, in Charlotte, NC. When she’s not at CrossFit you can find her at Southern Om teaching or sweating (and sometimes snoring) on her mat!
The beautiful blend of high intensity training at CrossFit and the power of sweat and meditation through yoga allow Jessica to find a blissful balance in a high energy lifestyle. Some other things that bring Jessica pure happiness are her dog, Winnie Cooper, Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee and real face to face conversations with friends family and strangers.
