Angela Kilcullen received her yoga certification seven years ago while nearing the end of her NBA dance career. Initially she was drawn to yoga for the physical work out and to maintain flexibility, but she was pleasantly surprised to find that her old dance injuries began to dissolve. And as the layers of pain peeled away, the unexpected desire to delve into the mindful and spiritual dimensions of the practice took hold. Yoga is now an integral part of her life and because of it Angela feels she is a better and more present wife, mother, teacher and friend. Angela teaches with Vinyasa’s freedom of movement and choreography (paralleling her dance background) and she is inspired by Anusara’s alignment principles and philosophy. No two of her classes are ever alike and she... Read the profile >>

Ultra Marathon Runner
Having been kicked off the 8th grade track team Graham’s running career was off to a lackluster start. And lackluster it remained all through high school and college. It was not until her father-in-law (an avid runner) decided to do the NYC Marathon that she stepped up to the challenge. In 2005, Graham ran the NYC marathon in 4:20…and over her next several attempts (Chicago and once as a Boston Bandit) her times inched further into the 5+ hour mark. Knowing she could run for hours on end she set her sights on a new distance, the Ultra Marathon. Not wanting to bite off more than she could chew Graham opted to run the Vermont 100k instead of the Vermont 100 mile in July 2009. It took Graham 12:52:09. She ended up in 1st for women and 3rd overall. However, upon further... Read the profile >>

Kaia Yoga/Equinox
After working in the fashion industry for over 20 years, I knew that I needed to make a change in my life but was unsure what that meant. So I headed to an ashram retreat with a few friends, where I meditated to add more peace and happiness into my life. Returning from that experience, I was informed that the company had to downsize and my position was being eliminated, so “poof”. . .my wish was granted! I seized this opportunity and committed to listen to my heart to take the next step on the journey of my yoga practice. I am now a 200 Hour Registered Yoga Instructor, and also certified in Kids Yoga and Yin Yoga. Currently, I am working on pursuing my 300 Hour Certification within the next year and attending continuing education workshops as often as possible. My teaching... Read the profile >>
Marathon Runner
“In running, it doesn’t matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, ‘I have finished.’ There is a lot of satisfaction in that.” ? Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon Co-Founder Maria Lauretani had always been involved in competitive sports from a young age, but never competed specifically in cross-country or track. In order to stay in shape, she would run three to four miles a few days a week primarily on the treadmill, but it wasn’t until she decided to enter the lottery for the New York City Marathon in 2008 where she found her real passion in running. After receiving a coveted lottery spot to run that marathon, a new talent was discovered. She trained completely on her own for this event and... Read the profile >>

What?! Getting a major workout and having non-stop, face-splitting, smile-generating fun are not mutually exclusive?! No wonder Zumba program's hypnotic music, easy-to-follow moves and party atmosphere had Shalaine hooked from her first class. The sweaty, post work-out endorphin rush or "after-glow" just sealed the deal. Since its inception in 2001, the Zumba program has grown to become the world's largest – and most successful – dance-fitness program with more than 12 million people of all shapes, sizes and ages taking weekly Zumba classes in over 110,000 locations across more than 125 countries. Zumba class was the vehicle for Shalaine to reduce her chronic high-blood pressure (as high as 240/140), lose over 20 lbs & keep the weight off, but what had her returning as a... Read the profile >>
Release.....bliss.....emotional high....heavenly joy....euphoria. I could go on describing the sheer happiness that physical fitness, and most importantly running has brought into my life. I have always been an athlete, but it wasn't until ten years ago when my hours spent in the gym became monotonous and dull. Choosing to break out of my comfort zone I decided to train for my first Sprint triathlon. It was then that my so called "creature of habit" was lost, and my life was forever changed. From that moment on, I have competed in triathlons, biathlons, running races (both long and short), and in the past two years have run in three half marathons. I "caught the bug" after completing my first marathon (New York City) in my goal time of 1:45. The past several years I have also... Read the profile >>
