“Love life, live love”. These lovely words are what guide Courtney every day. Whether she’s on her mat, leading a practice, walking her pups, playing with kids, or exploring the “Big Blue” with her hubby, it’s all infused with feelings of joy and love. Growing up working and playing outdoors, Courtney developed a deep connection to the Earth and the beings that inhabit it. This sense of unity permeates Courtney’s actions both on and off her mat. An athlete from an early age she was always up to something. Hauling hay, riding her horse through a cross country course, running hurdles, pushing bobsleds, or frolicking in the wild places of Alberta, she loved to be moving and moving fast. Yoga came into her life as a way to help tired muscles stave off injury. It has since taken her on an unexpected, but beautiful journey.
Upon moving to Shad Bay she was delighted to discover Therapeutic Approach Yoga Studio. It was there that she discovered not only a new way to relate to her practice, but also the teachers who would lead her through her 200hr teacher training. Since her first class as a goal oriented athlete she has discovered the bliss of surrendering into a pose and its sensations. Yoga has taught her to balance strength with grace. Courtney delights in leading her students playfully through a challenging power class linking movements with breath, leaving some sweat behind on the mat, and honoured to lead people into places of deep opening and stillness. Her yin style classes often include elements of Thai massage, energy work and guided meditation, a multi dimensional experience that has been described as simply sublime.
Courtney continues to always be up to something. She and her Husband, Greg, are the co-owners of Pura Vida Yoga & Kayak in Shad Bay. In both the kayaking and yogic adventures they provide personal instruction, small group size, and a warm inviting space. They also recently founded a not-for-profit, Toes in the Water, with the intention to eliminate financial barriers and provide youth a nurturing environment to explore themselves, nature, outdoor activities, free form art and just being a kid. You can also join Courtney for classes at 108 Yoga and Halifax Yoga.
