I wasn't able to sit upright, I could only lie on the floor with my feet elevated. My doctors told me I would eventually have to undergo back surgery - which I didn't like the sound of. I had fallen out of my yoga practice, became weak, lazy and tired. Everyone was telling me something different. My chiropractor said I needed adjustments, my physical therapist said I needed to do elliptical running, my neurosurgeon said I needed to make an appointment to cut out the disc, and my Yoga teacher was telling me, "Lock the Knee!" Jesa Simpkins (RYT-200hrs) began practicing yoga diligently in 1998. In 2009 she completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training at Aloha Yoga Kula in Hawaii. Shortly there after she began training under Andrea Torres at Samadhi Hawaii and is currently one of her aerialists. Her love and practice of aerial arts, dance, Pilates, and yoga (Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara), lead her to meet Ana Prada who began training and sharing her movements known as Aerial Yoga. After many hours of practice and collaboration with Andrea and Ana, Vayu Aerial Yoga was created, combining their love of aerial arts and hatha yoga. In 1999, at the Bikram College of India in Los Angeles California, Lehua experienced a class that would forever change her concept of working out. They called it yoga and since Madonna was doing it, it must have been cool! "After tearing my ACL and meniscus from years of I running, I reluctantly decided to try yoga, I thought to myself how hard could it be?" Said the once self proclaimed gym rat. Born and raised in Honolulu, Ms. Beppu began her ballet training with Hawaii State Ballet under the direction of Mr. John Landovsky while attending Punahou School. She also studied at the Boston Ballet School and spent summers in New York City training with various teachers and coaches such as David Howard, Wilhelm Burmann, Alaine Haubert, Finis Jhung and Diana Cartier. Romi danced professionally with three major ballet companies on the mainland - American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, and Ballet West. During her tenure with these companies she toured internationally, dancing in Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Japan as well as in the continental US. She moved to Oahu in 2005 and decided to devote herself to the study of yoga. // She graduated from Yoga Hawaii’s teacher training in 2006 and extended her teaching skills with Yoga for Kids and Prenatal Yoga. She has completed an apprenticeship in Pregnancy Yoga with Cathy Louise Broda at Purple Yoga, and is currently her Ashtanga apprentice. Yoko is also a Shiatsu therapist (MAT-11603) and is training to be a doula. // Yoko practices and teaches Ashtanga yoga, and spent three months at Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India.
