Hot Yoga Nimitz

Started Practicing Yoga: 1999 Became Teacher: 2002 (Bikram's Yoga College of India) How I got into yoga: After a car accident in 2003, I was diagnosed with a disc herniation in my lower back. I wasn't able to sit upright, I could only lie on the floor with my feet elevated. My doctors told me I would eventually have to undergo back surgery - which I didn't like the sound of. I had fallen out of my yoga practice, became weak, lazy and tired. Everyone was telling me something different. My chiropractor said I needed adjustments, my physical therapist said I needed to do elliptical running, my neurosurgeon said I needed to make an appointment to cut out the disc, and my Yoga teacher was telling me, "Lock the Knee!" I found that yoga was the only remedy with lasting results. The... Read the profile >>

Lilly Barels

North Shore Yoga Co-op

"I grew up in Malibu, CA and graduated from UCLA with a BS in Psychobiology with a concentration on neuroscience and a BA in Dance. Confused at the so-called irrelevance that one major has with the other? My motive is to connect the ever-dichotomized mind and body. I've always been frustrated with the mutual absence the fields of science and art have with each other. Finding this continuum between the subjects has become a significant goal. I taught creative movement to children ages 4-12 and noticed that dancing not only expanded the physical abilities of the children, but the imaginative and mental growth was outstanding as well. I found dance provided an emotional release, sewing a therapeutic purpose. While teaching dance, I trained to become a yoga instructor through Maha Yoga and... Read the profile >>
