Matt’s yoga journey began when he was a tennis player, using a sporadic yoga practice as a way of keeping flexible and agile. This less than regular practice continued through the next decade of working in the fitness industry in Adelaide and Sydney as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Manager. Like most he then discovered that yoga could and would offer so much more! An awakening of sorts convinced him to box up his Australian life and set off with his backpack, with no real idea of where he would end up, or what he was searching for. It was during these travels he met his not-yet-but-soon-to-be yoga brother and teacher Ryan Leier. Although he didn’t know it at the time, he would become a big influence on Matt’s journey and teaching!
This journey would eventually lead him to London, where he was trained in Vinyasa Flow by the amazing Claire Missingham, who continues to inspire whenever he takes further practice with her. He was blessed during this period to have also studied Vinyasa Krama with Srivatsa Ramaswami – the direct teachings of Krishnamacharya.
Since committing to yoga he has found his body, mind and life open up in ways only those who have also committed to yoga could understand! He is blessed and grateful to be a part of inspiring yoga communities in both London and Canada.
Matt is the Group Head of Fitness for The Third Space, London’s Premier Health Clubs, and is proud to offer his regular teachings here exclusively. He aims to make his classes dynamic and fun, so expect a strong vinyasa based practice, with an energetic flow, constant focus on the breath, and of course sweet tunes!
