What’s your full name? Brandon Michael Laan
Where did you grow up? London, ON
When and where did you first fall in love with sports or athletics? How did you get involved? How did it make you feel when you first began?
I fell in love with sport between the ages of 10 and 12 when I realized I wasn't good but could be great if I put in the work. I got involved with running as a means to get ready for the basketball season. My high school coach (Ms.P.) was the person who convinced me to run track. I blame her for my addiction.
What is your background (education, training, etc) that allows you to do what you do today? How could somebody else learn to do what you do?
I have used myself as a research subject. I am also fully immersed in the running space. Therefore, in order for someone to learn to do what I do, they would have to read and then hop in the fire...best way to learn!
What do you appreciate most about London and its community?
I appreciate the dedication of the few.
What is the most important thing you would tell a beginner in your field?
Be consistent and believe.
How do you cultivate a regular, useful practice yourself? What do you do on a daily basis that supports your pursuit?
Routine. Routine. Routine. I adhere to my calendar for work and my training log for my running.
