At 3 years of age fitness started to be a big part of my life. From the balance beam to the local skating arena I was a very active girl. By 8 years of age, I joined my school’s running team and have been an advocate of running ever since.

In 2001, I ventured to the United States to run competitively in both varsity cross country running and track and field. In 2002, I was named Bluffton University’s Most Valuable Female Runner of the Year. In 2004, I transferred back to Ontario to finish my studies where I graduated from Loyalist College with a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion. It was there where I helped take my team to both the provincial and national cross country championships. I placed 7th at the All Ontario Cross Country Championships taking a spot on the All-Ontario team to represent Ontario at Nationals. Our team finished strong and took 1st place at provincials and 3rd at nationals. My hard work and motivation allowed me to receive the Canadian Colleges & Athletic Association National Scholar Award for the 04/05 varsity season.

I am currently working for Tri Fit Inc., a fitness and wellness corporation as a fitness and wellness consultant at the Sussex Centre in Mississauga. At Sussex, I teach a variety of group exercise classes, personal train clients, conduct fitness assessments, and run health and wellness events. My job is great, it allows me to help clients reach for their goals and live a life of longevity. I am also a personal trainer at York University, where I am continuing my studies in the Kinesiology program.

I am nationally certified through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology as a personal trainer and fitness consultant. I am both a group exercise and weight training instructor through the Ontario Fitness Council and am looking forward to obtaining my yoga certification in October. I have also had the unique opportunity to teach group fitness in Ocho Rios on the island of Jamaica.

My goal this year is to finish my first marathon where I hope to qualify for the Boston Marathon held next spring. I also want to help those around me live a happy, healthy, lifestyle.

My words of wisdom for others are to “live each day to the fullest and reach for your goals. Incorporate fitness and wellness into your life and you will be amazed with the changes. Enjoy life and thank God for His blessings to you.”
