Ryan is the co-owner of CrossFit Newmarket Central.
For years growing up I was always changing my ambition when it came down to what I wanted to do for a living. All of which came and went without a care. I realized years ago that no matter what I did, it had to be something that made me happy and made it easy to get up out of bed every morning. I have always been interested in exercise and was always the one going to the gym at all times of the day to get my workout in. I never contemplated the fact that I could turn my passion for exercise into a job where I could actually help people’s lives. I decided to pursue this as a career by going to Fanshawe College in London for Fitness & Health Promotion. I wanted to advance my knowledge of how the body worked as well as providing myself with the opportunity of becoming a better trainer. After completing the Fitness & Health Promotion program I went to the University of Guelph/Humber to obtain my Honours Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology Science. I had the opportunity of being in one of the few Kinesiology programs that had a main focus on exercise.
I stumbled upon CrossFit through one of my fellow classmates and never really understood the concept of how it worked or what the reasoning behind constantly varied workouts was. Everything I had learned in my academic career was different from the methods outlined by CrossFit. After training clients for multiple years in a globo gym as well as a sport conditioning facility I realized that there had to be something better out there. I was re-introduced to CrossFit by Michelle one day at our old gym and from that day on I was hooked. There was no looking back from that point on. I immersed myself in the CrossFit methods and spent countless hours each day learning as much as I could about them. After getting my level 1 certification in early 2009 I began training the majority of my clients with CrossFit. The results they received were incredible. I had limited resources at my disposal to perform most of the CrossFit movements but still made it work. I knew that in order to fully utilize the CrossFit methods to their full potential I had to open my own box. That brings me to the present with CrossFit Newmarket Central. Michelle and I both knew that in order to pursue our dream this had to be the next step in our lives. The demand for CrossFit continually grew and we were aware that the need for a box in Newmarket was becoming more evident as the days went on. We wanted the best of the best for equipment as well as coaching. I am on a constant mission of enhancing my skills as a CrossFitter and coach. I have completed many certifications while in school as well as after completing my degree.
I want nothing more than to be able to train people who want to get results and who are willing to push themselves that extra bit to pursue what the normal person is not willing to do. CrossFit is a way of life for me and I hope that I can share my knowledge and passion for it with as many people as possible. I can guarantee that once you try it there is no turning back. Every client I have ever trained using CrossFit now looks back on the old way of training in a globo gym as a thing of the past. It simply will not get you the type of results that CrossFit will.
