I grew up in a rural town outside Savannah, GA. The warm climate and open spaces provided a great environment to play many sports, including bike riding, and running. I played recreational and church league basketball, baseball and track. In high school I played football and I learned the importance of a year-round strength and conditioning program. Now I compete in triathlons, on and off road, which requires a year-round commitment to fitness and healthy lifestyle choices

Besides receiving a personal trainer certification, attending classes, and reading books relating to my new career, I also learned from a mentor who encouraged exploring how the body functions. This exploration led to training for several 300+ mile bike tours and eventually triathlons. I even convinced my wife to ride 550 miles with me in one week from Amsterdam to Paris to help raise money for AIDS research. I competed in my first Olympic distance triathlon in 2001, my first XTERRA off-road triathlon in 2002, and my first marathon in New York in 2005 (in just over 3 hours).

I have coached groups and individuals for events ranging from sprint triathlons to the New York City Marathon and distances in between. A strong background in kinesiology and anatomy give me a well balanced perspective on program structure and efficient running form. 30 years of running and 15 years as personal trainer combine to give expert running and injury prevention advice as well as knowledge of the rigors of running. Coaching groups has honed my skills at effectively presenting my running knowledge to beginners as well as experienced athletes. Coaching individuals has allowed me to experience on a one to one basis just how my coaching is received and to further sharpen my communication skills.

Through many years of training myself and others I have come to have a solid understanding of physical health and fitness at the various stages of development. I train athletes and non-athletes, and children through seniors with attention to safety and injury prevention. I work with my clients to improve flexibility, strength, and overall health. I love what I do and I receive tremendous joy from working my clients.

I feel that running is accessible to anyone with a pair of shoes and the desire to achieve their goal. Anyone can run. Those with the desire to run long need only a little patience, some support, and an place to run.
