Derek Beres is the creator of Earthrise YogaTM, a Vinyasa-based practice with an emphasis on the physical aspect of asanas, as well as jnana and bhakti yogas. He currently teaches fourteen weekly classes, as well as privately, in New York City, and travels internationally as an instructor and lecturer on yoga, as well as his work in international music as a journalist and DJ. His fourth book, Sound Against Flame: The Process of Yoga and Atheism in America, will be published in June 2008. Derek is also a red belt/conditioning teacher in the Budokon system. He strongly adheres to the tried and tested idea that a sound mind is accomplished with the maintenance of a sound body, as those two ideas are aspects of the same process - namely, that of being human.

Derek is a leading international music journalist, and author of three previous books: Global Beat Fusion: The History of the Future of Music; Tangled Web: The Best Music Tour You Never Heard Of; and A Staircase of Words, Vol One: Essays (w/Dax-Devlon Ross). His first novel, Mysterious Distance, will be out in early 2009.
