Michelle has always been an athlete, competiting at national level in surf lifesaving, surfing, touchfootball and cross country. Michelle was born with strength and stamina but lacked flexibility. After high school she completed a 2 year fulltime Advanced Diploma in Recreational Fitness majoring in Personal Training. The next step was a Business Degree majoring in Marketing with a view to fullfill her dream of one day operating a holistic health centre. When the opportunity presented itself with Cheryl-anne during her university years Michelle put her knowledge and passion into practice, and ‘Essence of Living’ was born.
During her business degree Michelle also completed the international Advanced ‘Stott Pilates’ Mat course specialising in Stability Ball, Fitness Circle, Flex Band and Foam Roller instruction together with Reformer Apparatus Training. Later she deepened her knowledge and completed the internationally recognised ‘Body Control Pilates’ Mat Course to give her clients a simple understanding of body awareness and postural alignment, blending both styles together to achieve faster results.
Once Michelle finished her Business Degree she decided to follow her heart and began studying Natural Medicine majoring in Nutrition. As her flexibilty SLOWLY improved, she completed the ‘Yoga Arts’ 200hr intensive Teacher Training course in Ubud, Bali and since discovered her 1st guru Emil Wendal. This led her to the international arena where she was invited to teach Yoga in Hong Kong through Yoga Limbs and also hosted a variety of Pranayama workshops. Naturally India was calling and joined ‘Brahmani Yoga’ 500hr intensive Ashtanga Teacher Training in Goa.
Being a vegan for many years for ethical reasons Michelle was drawn to the amazing teachings of Sharon Gannon and David Life founders of the Jivamukti Yoga method which involves a strong spiritual activism approach to yoga as a lifestyle. Whilst completing the ‘Jivamukti Yoga’ 300hr intensive teacher training course she knew she had found her gurus and travelled back to New York to complete the 500hr apprenticiship. It was during her apprenticiship that she managed to also study under Dharma Mittra the symbol of love itself. “Dharmas energy and love is so profound one can’t help but want to learn from the great yoga Master.”
Michelle's teaching style resonates the Jivamukti method for both yoga and pilates classes; encompassing a deeper level of awareness and responsiblity in all aspects of life. She strives to shine the light of her gurus teachings to her students to empower them to grow and blossom. With the ever increasing knowledge and experience one will feel nurtured, satisfied and complete after a session on the mat with Michelle.
Together with the Gold Coast City Council, Michelle offers beginners Yoga and Pilates classes in local parks and community centres across the coast to promote the many health benefits of yoga and pilates for all ages to enjoy.
