For as long as I can remember, sport, athletics and fitness have been an integral part of my life. From competing in track and field and soccer at an early age in Trinidad, and then moving onto baseball when I moved to Canada. In high school I joined the football and rugby teams,I remember and to this day still love the feeling that comes with competing. The validation of the practice, and hours alone spent training. The camaraderie amongst you and your teammates after a tough win, and tough losses. People often say that sports are a great tool for teaching life lessons. In my case they were a tool that i used to develop confidence, self awareness, and build life long friendships. It also taught me discipline, commitment, and accountability. My first year at York University, I decided... Read the profile >>
A free spirit is how my friends would best describe me. I embody a passion for teaching yoga, traveling the world, drum and base and laughter into this one body and big smile. I’ve learned so many valuable lessons in my journey through life so far, yet one of the most prominent came at a time when I was directing the Canadian version of the ‘TED’ conferences. For years I brought together thousands of people to listen to these amazing thinkers, do’ers and shakers and was quite proud of the position I held. I was very successful at my job, met many celebrities and worked alongside some very elite people. After years of schooling and the envy of all my friends I thought I had reached what was called ‘success’. The thing about success though is you have to define it for... Read the profile >>
My love affair with yoga began with a slow and steady courtship. I had done a few classes here and there as a compliment to my dance training, but never adopted a regular practice. I felt that I had other ways of getting my body moving with dance and the gym…yoga was just something I would do if I was feeling tired and wanted a good stretch. Then, at 20 years old, my physical and mental health hit rock bottom. I found myself moving home from university, quitting dance, battling mono and being treated for depression. My doctor suggested I try taking some yoga classes as a gentle way to keep myself physically active and hey, it might even help with my depression and anxiety. To this – I rolled my eyes. Did this lady really think hitting a mat and doing some poses and some stretches... Read the profile >>
There is a saying in the yoga world that you are only as old as the number of years since you started practicing yoga....so that would make me about 7 years old. Fitting really, as yoga keeps me feeling young. One of my most favorite things about owning a yoga studio (Power Yoga Canada) and being a yoga teacher is that I get to be in the fullest expression of myself each and every day.... it's my job! I am truly living my dream! I first was introduced to yoga while living in NYC on the Upper East Side at a studio called "Some Like it Hot Yoga" and Paige Elenson (now my dear friend and founder of the Africa Yoga Project) was my first Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga Teacher. I would leave class feeling rinsed and more awake and alive than I did going in. Paige had a light about her and I... Read the profile >>
Being theyoungest of 3 brothers, Michael came by running honestly. Whether it was for pure survival or to get to the dinner table, Mike had to run. Now after 100 + races including 10 marathons and 2 Ironman, Mike now runs for fitness and excitement. Mike started running in 2002 with the Frosty 5k in Burlington, Ontario. With a what's next attitude, Mike went on to run a half-marathon, a full marathon and an ultra-marathon as his next 3 races. Wanting to pass his love of running on to as many people as possible, Mike started coaching at a local running store in 2005 and went on to coach hundreds of people over the next 5 years. Keep fit and go fast became Mike's favorite saying, always telling people that fast is a relative term. Lions or gazelles when the sun comes up you'd better be... Read the profile >>
As a former member of the Canadian National Synchronized skating team, Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Professional Skating Coach I have been on the wellness journey all my life. I stumbled upon yoga five years ago after the birth of my son. Suffering from low back pain, a result of child birth, running and stress, I found yoga helped me work through my discomfort and allowed me to become more active, energized and improved my overall health. After a couple of years of attending Kinndli's classes, who was my teacher, my inspiration and now business partner and dear friend, I wanted to know where she got her shine and decided to go straight to the source. So I headed off to one of Baron Baptiste's bootcamps, and have attended three in the last two years. Well that was the beginning of... Read the profile >>
