Darrell Duvauchelle
Multnomah Athletic Club
Sitting in a cubicle for 9 hours a day as a computer programmer was not fulfilling to Darrell Duvauchelle so he decided he needed a change. Against his common sense he left a lucrative high tech job and pursued a career in the fitness field as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. He says it was the best decision he ever made. He eventually toured the region as a master instructor and also was selected as a presenter for the IDEA World Conference. Currently he is the Fitness Manager at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon.
Darrell graduated from the University of Washington Business School and studied post-baccalaureate coursework in computer science at Portland State University. He earned his fitness certifications through American Council on Exercise, International Sports Sciences Association and the Aquatic Exercise Association. Over the years in the fitness industry he has seen exercise crazes come and go and come again and go again and acknowledges there are lessons all along the way. “It’s rare that one thing can keep you motivated over a lifetime so it’s important to be open-minded and respectful of other movement disciplines, learn from them, and don’t ever get too smug with your own talents. When you think you’ve learned enough about this industry then it’s time to move on to a different career.” When he’s not at the gym Darrell occupies his time researching his next great vacation or “attempting home improvement projects that seemed like a good idea at the time”.
