Alumni Ambassador Romy Toussaint

Yoga Above, PEAC, Bristol Meyers Squibb, Robert Woods Johnson

Romy has been involved in the health and fitness field for over thirty years. She began as a swimming instructor in high school and continued teaching as an aerobics and group fitness instructor throughout college. Romy is an athlete who played soccer, volleyball and ran track in high school and college. Romy continues to play competitive volleyball and coaches her sons’ soccer teams. She recently rediscovered her love for running and has completed three marathons and runs triathlons.

Romy’s teaching style reflects her own practice, which began in 1992 when a friend gave her a Brian Kest Power Yoga video. Romy integrates her training in Iyengar, Anusara and Kundalini Yoga into a Vinyasa Style Asana practice. She uses music, poetry, dance and hands-on assist to make classes fun and challenging while emphasizing careful attention to alignment. In addition to teaching yoga and other group fitness classes, Romy offers private yoga instruction, kids’ yoga, instructs athletes on the benefits of yoga by giving workshops at sports camps, and is a certified personal trainer.

Romy encourages students to listen, honor, and work with their bodies using the breath as a guide. Her passion for learning and integrating yoga into all aspects of her life, including being a wife and a mother of four sons, has been her source of inexhaustible enthusiasm to teach from the heart. “I love yoga because it makes me do everything better”

Romy has studied with many yoga teachers including Baron Baptiste, Beryl Bender Birch, Sean Corne, John Domenico, Kevin Gardiner, Rolf Gates, Bobby Goldin, Brian & Johnny Kest, Simon Park, Abby Willis, but finds that she learns the most from her personal practice and the students in her daily classes.
