Katie is a mother of 3, a dedicated yoga practitioner, community builder and an aspiring writer. Katie founded the Spokane Yoga Shala in 2003, and it has been growing and providing Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in Spokane ever since. Katies work in the community through the Yoga Shala includes bringing internationally known yoga teachers through workshops, teacher trainings and kirtan to Spokane, founding Mindful Mama’s, a parenting support group, and now Yoga People Care (www.yogapeoplecare.com). “As a yoga teacher I meet so many other teachers and yoga students who are aware and compassionate – and willing to help others who are in pain…YPC is an opportunity for us to practice that our thoughts, words and actions matter.”
In 2011, after 7 years of study with her teacher David Garrigues she received his blessing to teach in the Ashtanga Vinyasa lineage as he was taught by his teacher Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Her teaching style is encouraging and incorporates her studies of Somatics in the lineage of Thomas Hanna and reflects her belief that everything we experience in our lives is a bodily experience and through yoga you can unlearn the negative and re-learn a positive integrated way of being. Katie had the honor of meeting and paying her respects and gratitude to Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, on several occasions during his last US tours. And in 2010 with the help and support of family and friends she was able to travel to Mysore, India and study at the Sri K Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute. Online, Katie writes a blog to support her teaching and journey of evolving as a yoga teacher and practitioner, owning a
business and being a mom.
