“Growing up as an over weight girl I developed a low self esteem,” says Carmen Puyo. As an adult I learned the importance of wellness and now I feel that it is my duty to spread the word. I can help people feel good about who they are.” she says.
Carmen Puyo began her career as a group fitness instructor 18 years ago. She has been a Group Fitness Manager for the past 13 years, overseeing Fitness clubs in Toronto. In 1998, Carmen was awarded "Instructor of the Year" and in 2003 she was awarded "Group Exercise Manager of the Year". She graduated from the Fitness and Lifestyle management program at George Brown College. She has additional certifications through Canfitpro, Schwinn, Gravity and in the fall of 2012 she finished her 200 hours of yoga teachers training. Her fitness expertise is highlighted in her role as ambassador for Lululemon Athletica.
Carmen also believes in giving back. She is actively involved in fundraising events for The Canadian Breast cancer society, Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation and Toronto Food bank and has successfully raised thousands of dollars for each of the causes. In March of 2008 she summit to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money and awareness for the Canadian Breast cancer society and raised over $5000 for the cause.
Carmen is now able to teach her passion to future fitness leaders as a course instructor at Humber College. She teaches Group Exercise leadership as part of the Health and Fitness Diploma at Humber College.
