Joseph Lauricella has been in the health and fitness world since he was 12. He excelled as a wrestler throughout junior high and high school where he was first introduced to yoga for strength and flexibility. He received a Bachelors degree in Sociology at Oswego State in NY. Over the last 15 years he has helped thousands of people heal themselves physically, mentally and emotionally through massage therapy and yoga.
Joseph is the founder of Arizona Power Yoga where he teaches classes, workshops, and retreats. He is also the founder and director of the Arizona School of Yoga where he has trained over 40 yoga teachers. “I embrace the traditional teachings of yoga as in the Yoga Sutras and other yoga texts, but I also allow my own intuition, experiences and understanding of the human condition into my teachings.”
Joseph is a graduate of the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in Santa Fe. He studied massage therapy, anatomy and bio mechanics in school while learning Lakota Spirituality with a community of Native American Elders. While living in a ’79 Chevy van out in the desert, he was involved in countless ceremonies, which gave him a unique opportunity to explore his own spirituality. He taught massage therapy and body mechanics at the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage in Syracuse, NY before making his way west again. You can feel his deep connection to the earth in all the classes and retreats he teaches.
He is truly the teacher’s teacher. He is approachable and eager to reconnect people to the earth and to their own hearts. His knowledge and understanding of the human body combined with his light heartedness and passion for yoga creates a highly inspirational and physically challenging class experience. He is currently writing two books, one about living in the van on the road and the other is about yoga and a wolf he lived with for ten years!
