Catherine has always loved to run. She started running competitively at 8 years old and competed at both track and cross country until 15. Getting burnt out from rigorous training and needing a social life, Catherine took a break from competitive running and went back to running casually. After many years of casual running, in her early twenties she decided to embark on the journey of the marathon. Her first marathon was Victoria and she instantly became hooked on the consistency of training and the fun of the big events. After running a few marathons, including Boston, Catherine and her husband decided it was time to start a family and had 2 girls over 2 and a half years. Having children made Catherine appreciate the time she could get to run and her passion for running continued. She mainly ran on her own and steadily saw improvements in various distances.
Realizing that she still had potential she joined a running group filled with people of the same competitive running spirit who also shared her love of running, the Vancouver Falcons Athletic Club (VFAC) and watched her times over all distances drop. She has placed in the top 3 of her age group in almost all events run and loves the thrill of competing and challenging herself.
This year Catherine has turned 40 and is determined to be one of the top masters runners in Canada. She loves being able to show people that running at any age is fun and that just because you are a busy mom does not mean you need to leave behind your own goals. Catherine wants to share her passion to run with other families and children, so they too can discover how fun running is and help them to embark on healthy, fit lifestyles. Her goals include a running club for young girls, helping developing community minded runs and implementing a triathlon in her daughter's school. Catherine truly believes that developing a passion for sport at an early age is the key to helping individuals stay active for their entire lives.
