Kristin Smart

For Kristin, there is nothing better than a great run. Nothing feels better than to her than training hard for hours each and every day. Running is always her first priority but she also enjoys swimming, yoga, and hiking. While she hasn't been a serious competitive runner for very long, physical activity became a prominent focus of her life several years ago.
Running was a hobby Kristin got into as a very young teenager. Throughout high school with the encouragement and persistence from her father, she regularly went out for 10 km jogs. She used to call them "runs" but recently in the past 2 years of racing she has discovered the difference between a 50 minute 10 km "jog" and a 38 minute 10km "run".
Kristin was introduced to the world of running races in 2009, with a half marathon race on the Sunshine Coast. She placed 2nd in her age group in this race and was instantly hooked. Exactly one month later, she completed her first full marathon in Vancouver. After one year of training herself and continually improving and winning age group awards, Kristin was introduced to her teammates and coach of the Vancouver Falcons. In the 2011 BMO Vancouver Marathon Kristin had her biggest success so far, placing as the 4th woman overall, and 2nd Canadian female.
The marathon is Kristin's favorite distance and continues to be her main focus. In the past 2 and half years she has also completed countless 5, 8, and 10 km races, ten 1/2 marathons, and is on her way to the California International marathon as an elite athlete competitor in December 2011, which will be her 6th full marathon.
Kristin hopes to have a positive impact on others through her passion for running and exercise and loves to motivate others. She loves to hear about other people’s positive fitness experiences almost as much as she loves the experiences of her own! She hopes in the pursuit of her own goals, to motivate as many people as possible to be their best at whatever activity they love.
