Lucy Smith

Runner

Lucy Smith is a professional athlete, coach, writer and mother of two. Since participating in her first fun run at age eleven, Lucy has developed her athletic career into a passionate full-time and lifelong pursuit of excellence that has been rewarded with two Silver Medals at the World Duathlon Championships, 19 Canadian Championship titles and countless podium finishes at international triathlon, duathlon and running competitions.

Lucy has excelled over a range of events from track and field 5000m and 10,000m, 10k road running, cross country running, duathlon, Olympic distance triathlon, ½ Ironman, ½ marathon, marathon, and Ironman triathlon. Always a leader, she has been appointed captain of many national teams and began coaching in 1997. Lucy’s success over different disciplines means that she is now a widely recognized and respected athlete and personality in the athletic and personal wellness communities.

After successfully turning 40, Lucy began reflecting her energy back into her community with full force, connecting her passion for fitness with hundreds of kids and adults through coaching, clinics and speaking engagements every year. Her mission is to reach as many people as possible with the message that training for and completing events gives a sense of personal agency and self satisfaction that is both life affirming and, in many case, life changing.

Through her dedication to excellence, teamwork, quality, personal best and life-fulfillment, Lucy continues to compete and find joy thirty years into her commitment to racing at the international level. This engaged and balanced experience in sport has allowed her to gain valuable insight into what sustains and motivates personal excellence.

Her current dream to fulfill is perhaps her biggest challenge yet: to write a book about running and the passion and inspiration that motivates us all to create positive and joyful goals for ourselves.
